  5. (1) 3Dfx Accelerator Cards
  6. --------------------------

  8. This game supports two different versions of Pandemonium: a non-3Dfx
  9. version and a 3Dfx version.
  10.  
  11. If you have a 3Dfx card, you should ensure that the SETUP program has a check
  12. in the box marked "Use my 3Dfx accelerator card".

  14. If you first install the non-3Dfx version of Pandemonium, and subsequently
  15. install a 3Dfx card, you must re-install Pandemonium in order to run the
  16. 3Dfx version of the game.

  19. (2) Full Install versus Compact Install
  20. ---------------------------------------

  22. The SETUP program allows you to choose between 'Full' and 'Compact'
  23. installation. The full install takes up more disk space but loads game levels
  24. much more quickly when you're playing Pandemonium.

  35. Once you start the game, you can alter certain parameters by pressing the
  36. ESCAPE key, which activates the game menu. You can:
  37.  
  38.         - adjust sound and music volumes,
  39.         - change keyboard controls,
  40.         - change joystick button controls, or
  41.         - alter performance parameters (non-3Dfx only).

  44. (2) Performance: Speed versus Graphic Quality
  45. ---------------------------------------------

  47. Pandemonium performs best on a 3Dfx accelerated machine.  On non-3Dfx
  48. or slower speed machines, Pandemonium does not run as quickly.  In order to
  49. alter the speed of the game, you can:
  50.  
  51.         - choose between full texturing (looks better) and low texturing
  52.         (runs faster), or
  53.         - enable Gouraud shading (looks better) or disable it (runs faster).
  54.  
  55. Also, the game normally runs slightly faster in 640x400 mode. To do this,
  56. specify 'Hide Desktop' when the game starts, and select 640x400 from the list
  57. of possible resolutions.

  59. Note: The 3Dfx version of Pandemonium always runs in 640x480 mode, with
  60. Gouraud shading enabled and full texturing turned on.

  63.                                 The Charles Utility
  64.                                 -------------------
  65.  
  66. This utility allows you to alter some of the graphics used in Pandemonium.
  67. For example, if you have a BMP file of the right size, you can replace Nikki's
  68. face with one of your own!
