  2. Windows users have long enjoyed the fact that when you start 
  3. Windows, you could have Windows automatically start any programs 
  4. simply by putting the program's icon into the 'StartUp' group.
  5.  
  6. Wouldn't it be great to have a similar 'ShutDown' group that right 
  7. before Windows exited, it would run these 'WrapUp' type programs 
  8. automatically for you? Imagine the uses for such a program...
  9.  
  10. You could automatically:
  11.  
  12.    - Backup your PC's hard disk(s).
  13.    - Log out of your PC network (LAN).
  14.    - Synchronize your laptop PC's hard disk with your desktop 
  15.      PC's hard disk or visa versa.
  16.    - Access your favorite online stock-quote system and retrieve 
  17.      your latest stock prices.
  18.    - Send an email message.
  19.    - Run your communications program and have it autodial your 
  20.      significant other, so you could pick up the telephone and 
  21.      tell him/her that you're on your way home.
  22.    - Or any DOS program or batch file that can be run from within 
  23.      Windows.
  24.    - Eject the CD-ROM disk from your drive.
  25.    - Or anything else for that matter...

  27. WrapUp is compatible with Windows 95, NT, and 3.1.

  30. To install under Windows 95:
  31.  
  32. Copy the following files to any single area of your PC's disk:
  33.  
  34.         WrapUp.exe
  35.         WrapUp.hlp
  36.         WrapUp32.dll
  37.  
  38. A typical destination might be:  C:\TNT\WRAPUP
  39.  
  40. Start Windows 95.
  41.  
  42. Open your 'StartUp' folder from the Start-Programs menu. If you 
  43. don't have a 'StartUp' folder, create one... Then create a new icon 
  44. for WrapUp so that it will automatically execute whenever Windows 
  45. 95 is executed. Don't run it yet...
  46.  
  47. Decide on the name for your new folder that WrapUp will access when 
  48. Windows starts to exit. We recommend the name 'ShutDown'. If you 
  49. want any name other than 'ShutDown', you must use the /g command 
  50. line option. See /g (alternative Group name) command line option 
  51. for more information.

  53. Create your new "ShutDown" folder. The folder must directly reside 
  54. off of the Start-Programs folder/menu (for example, the same menu 
  55. that the Accessories folder resides in). Do not create a folder 
  56. directly on your Desktop. This won't work! You can, however, create 
  57. a short-cut on your Desktop that points to the Programs 
  58. folder/menu.

  60. Move or copy your favorite programs' icons into your new 'Shutdown' 
  61. folder.

  64. To install under Windows NT or Windows 3.1:
  65.  
  66. Copy the following files to any single area of your PC's disk:

  69.         WrapUp.hlp
  70.         WrapUp32.dll

  74. Start Windows in either 'Standard' or 'Enhanced' mode. WrapUp  can 
  75. not run in 'Real' mode.

  77. Open your 'StartUp' group. Create a new icon for WrapUp so that it 
  78. will automatically execute whenever Windows is executed. Don't  run 
  79. it yet...
  80.  
  81. Decide on the name for your new group that WrapUp will access when 
  82. Windows starts to exit. We recommend the name 'ShutDown'. If you 
  83. want any name other than 'ShutDown', you must use the /g command 
  84. line option. See /g (alternative Group name) command line option

  97. Observe that WrapUp is running.

  99. Shut down Windows 95 by selecting "Start-Shut Down-Shut Down the 
  100. computer?". WrapUp will then wake up, and ask you via a dialog box, 
  101. if you want to close all of your currently running desktop 
  102. programs, and then it will execute all of the programs in your 
  103. shutdown group. Saying YES will do the above. Saying NO, will 
  104. simply exit Windows 95. Saying CANCEL, will abort the exiting of 
  105. Windows 95. You may override the default operation of WrapUp so 
  106. that it won't present you with the above dialog box by appending a 
  107. /N to the command line. In this mode, upon detecting Windows 95 
  108. starting to shutdown, WrapUp will automatically close your desktop 
  109. programs and then execute all of your shutdown group programs.

  111. When you are finally ready to exit Windows 95, shut down Windows. 
  112. This time, WrapUp will not intervene (since it already executed 
  113. your shutdown programs) and you will truly exit Windows 95.

  116. To operate under Windows NT or Windows 3.1:
  117.  
  118. Restart Windows.
  119.  
  120. Observe that WrapUp is running.
  121.  
  122. Exit Windows. You will get the familiar Windows "Are you sure you 
  123. want to close" dialog box. Say YES. WrapUp will then wake up, and 
  124. ask you via a dialog box, if you want to close all of your 
  125. currently running desktop programs, and then it will execute all of 
  126. the programs in your shutdown group. Saying YES will do the above. 
  127. Saying NO, will simply exit Windows. Saying CANCEL, will abort the 
  128. exiting of Windows. You may override the default operation of 
  129. WrapUp so that it won't present you with the above dialog box by 
  130. appending a /N to the command line. In this mode, upon detecting 
  131. Windows starting to exit, WrapUp will automatically close your 
  132. desktop programs and then execute all of your shutdown group 
  133. programs.

  135. When you are finally ready to exit Windows, exit Windows. This 
  136. time, WrapUp will not intervene (since it already executed your 
  137. shutdown programs) and you will truly exit Windows.

  142. Delete WrapUp.exe, WrapUp.hlp and WrapUp.dll from your disk.

  147. Upon detecting Windows starting to exit, WrapUp closes all of your 
  148. desktop programs so that after it then executes the programs in 
  149. your shutdown group, it will be easy to determine which programs 
  150. you need to deal with. They're the only programs left executing on 
  151. your desktop.

  153. LAN administrators can easily manage WrapUp by simply insuring that 
  154. the proper shutdown group (GRP) file is present for proper 
  155. operation. If the user is already running Windows in a LAN 
  156. environment, then the proper group files are already present and no 
  157. extra effort will be required. Please remember that one copy of 
  158. WrapUp must be purchased for each and every user of WrapUp.

  160. You can control the execution order of both your StartUp and 
  161. ShutDown group's programs by modifying their GRP files. TNT's 
  162. Grp2Ini program can make it easy for you to do this.

  164. WrapUp memorizes the contents of your shutdown group when you first 
  165. run WrapUp. If you modify your shutdown group's contents while 
  166. WrapUp is running, then WrapUp will not detect these changes. In 
  167. this case, you'll need to terminate WrapUp and then re-execute it 
  168. so that it will re-examine the new contents of your shutdown group. 
  169. This WrapUp behavior is due to limitations in Windows.

  171. Non Windows Program Manager users (such as Norton DeskTop, PCTools 
  172. MultiDesk DeskTop, and Windows NT) must modify WrapUp's command 
  173. line with the /Pxxxx option so that WrapUp can correctly access the 
  174. contents of the shutdown group. In order to do this, you must issue 
  175. a WrapUp File-Modules pull-down menu command to see a list of 
  176. desktop programs and their module names. Identify the name of your 
  177. program manger program and its module. This module must be entered 
  178. on WrapUp's command line as a /P option. For example, Windows 3.1's 
  179. Program Manager's module name is 'PROGMAN'. Windows 95's Explorer's 
  180. (Program Manager's) module name is 'Explorer'. Below is a list of 
  181. known alternative program managers and their associated /P option.

  183.    Windows NT:         /PWOWEXEC
  184.    PCTools MultiDesk:  /PWNDTLIB
  185.    HP DashBoard        /PDASH

  187. Command line syntax:   WrapUp [/N] [/Gxxx] [/Pxxx]
  188.  
  189. Note: At least one space must appear in between each switch.
  190.

  192. WrapUp is NOT freeware. Only unregistered evaluation versions  of 
  193. WrapUp may be freely distributed as shareware. Registered (paid 
  194. for) versions of WrapUp may NOT be shared.

  196. If you are unsure as to if your copy of WrapUp is registered or 
  197. not, examine the Help-About screen for your name. If it says 
  198. "UNREGISTERED..." then your are executing an evaluation version of 
  199. WrapUp.

  201. Evaluation versions of WrapUp will only execute one of your 
  202. programs that appear in your startup group. The remaining programs 
  203. will not be executed, however for each remaining program, WrapUp 
  204. will present a message to you stating that your program would have 
  205. run in a purchased version of WrapUp.
