  6. SAN JOSE, Calif. -- May 11, 1992 -- Novell Inc. and several technical
  7. service organizations today outlined ways in which Novell's new
  8. LANalyzer for NetWare product improves the network computing industry's
  9. ability to support NetWare customers.

  11. Because it's both affordable and easy to use, LANalyzer for NetWare is
  12. suited for smaller businesses, departmental administrators or their
  13. support organizations.  With LANalyzer for NetWare, customers can record
  14. network activity and send it on diskette to their support provider,
  15. where the file can be replayed and analyzed, revealing the network's
  16. problem areas.  Service providers can also view a customer's network in
  17. realtime over a modem link, isolating and correcting problems as they
  18. occur.

  20. "The introduction of LANalyzer for NetWare adds a cost-effective,
  21. top-notch support tool for our customers," said Richard King, Novell's
  22. vice president of service and support.  "Networking customers have been
  23. looking for a product that's sophisticated enough to provide high-level
  24. network analysis, while retaining the ease of use and affordability of
  25. more conventional networking utilities.  LANalyzer for NetWare provides
  26. high functionality while delivering on price and simplicity.  We feel
  27. LANalyzer for NetWare will help grow the entire network computing
  28. industry by making NetWare networks more manageable and supportable."

  30. Service Industry Support for LANalyzer for NetWare

  32. Resellers provide most of the front-line support for NetWare customers.
  33. Howard Lubert, president of HEL Inc. and vice chairman of the Local Area
  34. Network Dealers Association (LANDA) welcomed the announcement of
  35. LANalyzer for NetWare.  "Network management has become a critical
  36. component in the LAN resellers' arsenal," Lubert said.  "LANalyzer for
  37. NetWare from Novell will provide most network administrators and
  38. resellers with a practical tool to manage the network with almost no
  39. investment in high-tech tools or training. This will undoubtedly improve
  40. the service industry's ability to support NetWare users.  I can't
  41. imagine any reseller not being excited about this opportunity."

  43. Novell requires its higher-level resellers to have one or more Certified
  44. NetWare Engineers (CNEs) on staff.  CNEs are the network "mechanics" who
  45. actually diagnose and correct network malfunctions.  According to Stuart
  46. Pastman, Chair of the CNE Professional Association and Managing Partner
  47. of CGI Systems Inc., "LANalyzer for NetWare is one of the most exciting
  48. network management tools to emerge from the industry in a long time.  I
  49. think it will definitively expand the scope and capabilities of CNEs who
  50. are using it to support their NetWare customers."  Novell will provide
  51. training on LANalyzer for NetWare geared to the needs of CNEs.

  53. The Technical Support Alliance (TSA) is an affiliation of hardware and
  54. software vendors formed to provide customers with coordinated post-sales
  55. support for multivendor computing environments.  Novell is providing a
  56. free copy of LANalyzer for NetWare to each TSA member in an effort to
  57. establish a common standard for unified network support.  "Making
  58. LANalyzer for NetWare available to the entire TSA gives us a common
  59. denominator to use in evaluating network performance," said Clark
  60. Catelain, senior vice president, product development / technical
  61. services at Gupta Technologies, Inc., a TSA member. "We expect the
  62. product to become extremely popular among NetWare users, partly because
  63. they can capture files of network activity and send it to a TSA support
  64. facility for analysis.  There's no other product that's as affordable
  65. and functional."

  70. Network Management Products Division.  "This product is based on input

  72. network analysis product that's affordable and easy-to-use, while
  73. retaining many of the advanced features that have made the original
  74. LANalyzer the most widely used product of its kind.  We feel LANalyzer
  75. for NetWare delivers on these expectations."

  77. LANalyzer for NetWare is an affordable, hardware-independent network
  78. monitoring and analysis system.  Its graphical user interface provides
  79. an easily understood view of network statistics, and it features a
  80. unique point-and-click filtering system that minimizes the networking
  81. expertise needed to use the product.  Its software includes specialized
  82. tests and diagnostic tools for the NetWare environment.  The product
  83. also includes complete seven-layer protocol decodes for all versions of
  84. NetWare, as well as AppleTalk Phases 1 and 2.  LANalyzer for NetWare can
  85. run on any DOS-Windows workstation (80386 or better) and can analyze any
  86. Ethernet network (standard, thin-net or 10BASE-T).
