Alphie is an extremely flexible letter-drawing program that should be welcomed by anyone teaching children or adults their ABC’s. The four editable print/script fonts ("tracers") may be copied or traced and provisions exist for creating your very own. Three different pads offer a variety of environments that should please all.
Alphie can be fun and instructive without serious supervisor involvement, but parents and teachers are urged to make generous use of online HELP to take full advantage of Alphie's capabilities. The QuickStart Tour gets you hummin’ fast.
System 7. 68030 CPU. 640x480 monitor with 256 colors (preferred). About 5-11 megs hard disk space, depending on optional resources, ± 1 meg for storing Alphier recordings.

Quest mode: a letter is typed or clicked and Alphie announces the letter and displays appropriate graphics.
Game mode: Alphier is asked to choose the letters he/she wishes to practice. Selected letters are announced at random until all have been correctly identified. Stars are awarded for correct replies as Alphie skates to capture the upper/lower case ribbons and medals. The Alphie Medal of
Honor is awarded and rockets fired, etc., upon completion of the game.
DRAWING
Alphie has four editable Tracers (traceable letter-sets) that are displayed (Big Pad) or drawn (Main Pad) for subsequent tracing:
• alphPRINT — based on the Avian font.
• alphTRANS — an intermediate between alphPRINT and alphSCRIPT.
• alphSCRIPT — based on the Cornet font.
• alphFREE — the author’s hand, sort of :-)
• Edited Tracers are stored as editPRINT, editTRANS, etc.
Displayed Letters may be either traced or copied. Pointers, when enabled, indicate where each stroke begins. Alphier drawings can be recorded and stored within each Alphier’s folder for later playback. It is possible to display fonts chosen from the Font Menu, but drawings made from these cannot be recorded and neither Tracers nor Pointers will be available.
ÿ Be sure to open your Control Panels in the Apple Menu and click on
“mouse” to adjust mouse speed before drawing. Mouse and mouse pad
should be clean and the mouse in good working order, of course.
