- Break-It! Version 1.1
-
- When you first start the program, there is a message prompting you for
- your codefile drive. It will probably be A: if you installed it on your A:
- drive. You just put in the name of the drive and path (e.g. C:\BREAKIT!) but
- without a backslash (C:\BREAKIT!\). If you do this, the program will get con-
- fused. If you are using A:, type A: Simple? Simple!
- After that, you will be prompted (E)NCODE, (D)ECODE, or (R)ETRIEVE
- CODE. For the first two options, you will be prompted to enter a character for
- A through Z and 0 through 9. You may experiment with Alt-key combinations: To
- get a , for example, hold down Alt while pressing 4 on your number pad. For
- a ⌐, hold down Alt while pressing 1,6,9.
- For Retrieve Code, you will be prompted to select from a list of pre-
- existing codes (made by me). You type in the name, and it will be loaded into
- memory from your codefile (the one you typed that path for.)
- Sooner or later, you will come across another menu. This one comes
- after you finish typing in a code or retrieving one.
- (S)AME CODE, (D)IFFERENT CODE, (E)DIT CODE, DE(C)ODE, (L)IST CODE,
- (R)ETRIEVE CODE, S(A)VE CODE, (Q)UIT. E(N)CODE
- Same code lets you type in a message and encode it or decode it, pro-
- vided which mode you are in (the one you selected way back at the beginning.)
- If you are in encode, you type in a plaintext message and it will come back
- in your current code. In decode, type in your encoded message (it may be a
- little tricky if you used ╘┐_ characters!) It will come out decoded.
- Different code lets you enter a new code to be used. (This is different
- from Retrieve). Edit code lets you edit an existing code. If you want L to
- equal , but you entered , type L where it asks you the letter to be edited.
- Then type Alt-4, the combination.
- The fourth option depends on which mode you are using. It just switches
- modes. It will ask you Same Code Y/N? to ask you if you want to use the same
- code or enter a new one.
- List code just lists your letters and coded characters. This can be
- used to see if all your characters came out right.
- We've already talked about Retrieve Code. If you've already forgotten,
- go back and run through that section again. By the way, XXX is nothing. It's
- just there. But don't erase it!!!
- Save code is cool because it allows you to save your current code to
- your codefile to be retrieved at a later time. I've saved some already for you
- to use.
- Think about the Quit option. If you can't figure out what it does, get
- out a dictionary.
-
- Thanks for your time,
-
