- Important Notes
- ***************
-
- Installation
- ------------
- In order to get the JFIF datatype installed properly, you should use the
- supplied installation script. If you do not have the Commodore Installer
- you will have to install the datatype manually. Install it the same way
- the Installer would do it.
-
-
- Old JPEG datatype
- -----------------
- You must remove the old "JPEG" file from DEVS:DataTypes, otherwise the JFIF
- datatype will not work. The installation script will do this for you. If
- you had the old datatype installed, you must reboot to remove it from the
- internal datatypes list.
-
-
- Temporary swap space
- --------------------
- In certain modes, the datatype may require a large amount of memory. If
- this space is not available in main memory, it will create a temporary file
- in the directory pointed to by the "JPEGTMP:" assignment. It does not make
- sense to have this name assigned to RAM: since there will be no space left
- in RAM: if you run out of memory...
-
-
- Prefs editor
- ------------
- The default mode of the JFIF datatype is 256 colors. If you want HAM or
- less colors, use the prefs editor to change the settings. You can change
- the settings on a per-application base. The datatype will look for the
- file ENV:Classes/DataTypes/jfif.prefs, but the editor does not create the
- directories. If you use Installer, the required directories will be set
- up correctly, and a default settings file will be installed.
-
-
- About Icons
- -----------
- For the preferences editor there are three icons available, one regular
- four color icon, and two MagicWB style icons. When you have selected the
- MUI version of the preferences editor, the installation script quietly
- installes one of the MagicWB style icons. You will have to change them
- manually, if you do not like this.
-
-
- JPEG codec class
- ----------------
- The datatype uses the Tower JPEG Codec Class to decode (decompress) the
- JPEG data within the JFIF file. Developers may obtain a separate license
- to distribute the JPEG codec. For details, please refer to the Copyright
- section in the JFIF.guide.
