  22. 1. DISPLAY PROBLEMS

  25. 16 COLOURS -
  26.   The AA Guide to Pubs and Inns in Britain is NOT 
  27.   designed to run in 16 colour mode. If your display 
  28.   adapter supports 256 colour mode then you should 
  29.   change the display driver to one that supports 256
  30.   colours. Windows 3.x users can do this by running the
  31.   Windows setup program to change the display driver.

  33. 256 COLOURS OR GREATER -
  34.   The AA Guide to Pubs And Inns in Brtain is designed to 
  35.   run in 256 colour mode ( or greater). You should make 
  36.   sure that you have a display driver that is set to 256 
  37.   colour mode or greater before starting the guide.

  39. TEXT DISPLAYS INCORRECTLY AND/OR IMAGES CHOPPED OFF
  40. AT EDGES -
  41.   This problem can occur if your display driver 
  42.   is set to use a 'large font' mode instead of normal 
  43.   sized fonts. You should run the Windows Setup 
  44.   program to change the display driver to one that 
  45.   does not use large fonts. Windows 95 users should
  46.   use the display settings option in the control panel.

  50. 2. PRINTING PROBLEMS

  53. SETTING THE DEFAULT PRINTER -
  54.   The AA Guide to Pub and Inns in Britain prints to 
  55.   the current default printer, so you must ensure that 
  56.   a default printer has been set. You can check this in 
  57.   Windows 3.x by selecting Control Panel / Printers - 
  58.   making sure that the correct printer has been set as 
  59.   the default one. Windows 95 users can check by selecting 
  60.   Start / Settings / Printers - right-clicking each 
  61.   printer icon will show you which has been set as the
  62.   default printer.

  64. QUALITY OF THE SCREEN PRINTOUTS -
  65.   Because of the physical differences between 
  66.   printers and monitor displays, the quality 
  67.   of the screen printout is often inferior 
  68.   to that shown on the screen. This depends 
  69.   on the type of printer being used and the 
  70.   printer driver that Windows uses to 'talk' 
  71.   to the printer. If you find that the quality 
  72.   of the screen printouts are not as expected 
  73.   than you could try obtaining the latest 
  74.   printer drivers for your  particular printer 
  75.   from the supplier of your printer.

  79. 3. Backing up the Bookmark and Notes files
  80. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  82. Bookmarks and notes are stores in two files in
  83. the same directory as the AA Guide to Golf 
  84. Courses executable. You can make backup copies
  85. of the following files:
  86.  
  87.     AAPUB.BOK - The Bookmarks file
  88.     AAPUB.NOT - The Notes file
  89.  
  90. Please note that the Notes file is useless
  91. without a corresponding bookmarks file so if
  92. you backup one you should always backup the
  93. other as well.

  95. To restore these files from a backup make sure
  96. the AA Guide to Pubs and Inns in Britain is 
  97. installed properly; then copy the backed up files 
  98. into the same directory as the AA Guide to Pubs and 
  99. Inns in Britain executable. NOTE: You must overwrite 
  100. any existing bookmark or note file.

  104. 4. HOW TO MAKE THE GUIDE RUN MORE QUICKLY

  106.   Because of the graphical nature of the AA Guide 
  107.   to Pubs and Inns in Britain you may find that the 
  108.   program runs slowly and/or 'Out of Memory' errors 
  109.   are generated. If this is the case then consider 
  110.   the following points on how to improve the 
  111.   performance of your computer :

  114. CLOSE UNNECESSARY APPLICATIONS OR PROGRAMS -
  115.   Make sure that any other applications are closed 
  116.   while you run the AA Guide to Pubs and Inns in 
  117.   Britain. This includes any DOS Terminate Stay 
  118.   Resident (TSR) programs that may be running.

  120. RUN THE GUIDE IN 256 COLOUR MODE
  121.  
  122.   If lack of memory is causing the guide to run slowly,
  123.   setting the computer to 256 colour mode will increase
  124.   the speed of operation of the guide.

  126. CHECK THE AMOUNT OF MEMORY YOUR COMPUTER HAS -
  127.   Your computer should have at least 8MB of 
  128.   physical memory for the guide to work properly.

  131. 5. HOW TO OBTAIN TECHNICAL SUPPORT

  134. AA Guide to Pubs and Inns in Britain then please
