- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- 1. DISPLAY PROBLEMS
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- 16 COLOURS -
- The AA Guide to Pubs and Inns in Britain is NOT
- designed to run in 16 colour mode. If your display
- adapter supports 256 colour mode then you should
- change the display driver to one that supports 256
- colours. Windows 3.x users can do this by running the
- Windows setup program to change the display driver.
-
- 256 COLOURS OR GREATER -
- The AA Guide to Pubs And Inns in Brtain is designed to
- run in 256 colour mode ( or greater). You should make
- sure that you have a display driver that is set to 256
- colour mode or greater before starting the guide.
-
- TEXT DISPLAYS INCORRECTLY AND/OR IMAGES CHOPPED OFF
- AT EDGES -
- This problem can occur if your display driver
- is set to use a 'large font' mode instead of normal
- sized fonts. You should run the Windows Setup
- program to change the display driver to one that
- does not use large fonts. Windows 95 users should
- use the display settings option in the control panel.
-

- 2. PRINTING PROBLEMS
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- SETTING THE DEFAULT PRINTER -
- The AA Guide to Pub and Inns in Britain prints to
- the current default printer, so you must ensure that
- a default printer has been set. You can check this in
- Windows 3.x by selecting Control Panel / Printers -
- making sure that the correct printer has been set as
- the default one. Windows 95 users can check by selecting
- Start / Settings / Printers - right-clicking each
- printer icon will show you which has been set as the
- default printer.
-
- QUALITY OF THE SCREEN PRINTOUTS -
- Because of the physical differences between
- printers and monitor displays, the quality
- of the screen printout is often inferior
- to that shown on the screen. This depends
- on the type of printer being used and the
- printer driver that Windows uses to 'talk'
- to the printer. If you find that the quality
- of the screen printouts are not as expected
- than you could try obtaining the latest
- printer drivers for your particular printer
- from the supplier of your printer.

- 3. Backing up the Bookmark and Notes files
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- Bookmarks and notes are stores in two files in
- the same directory as the AA Guide to Golf
- Courses executable. You can make backup copies
- of the following files:
-
- AAPUB.BOK - The Bookmarks file
- AAPUB.NOT - The Notes file
-
- Please note that the Notes file is useless
- without a corresponding bookmarks file so if
- you backup one you should always backup the
- other as well.
-
- To restore these files from a backup make sure
- the AA Guide to Pubs and Inns in Britain is
- installed properly; then copy the backed up files
- into the same directory as the AA Guide to Pubs and
- Inns in Britain executable. NOTE: You must overwrite
- any existing bookmark or note file.
-
-

- 4. HOW TO MAKE THE GUIDE RUN MORE QUICKLY
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Because of the graphical nature of the AA Guide
- to Pubs and Inns in Britain you may find that the
- program runs slowly and/or 'Out of Memory' errors
- are generated. If this is the case then consider
- the following points on how to improve the
- performance of your computer :
-
-
- CLOSE UNNECESSARY APPLICATIONS OR PROGRAMS -
- Make sure that any other applications are closed
- while you run the AA Guide to Pubs and Inns in
- Britain. This includes any DOS Terminate Stay
- Resident (TSR) programs that may be running.
-
- RUN THE GUIDE IN 256 COLOUR MODE
-
- If lack of memory is causing the guide to run slowly,
- setting the computer to 256 colour mode will increase
- the speed of operation of the guide.
-
- CHECK THE AMOUNT OF MEMORY YOUR COMPUTER HAS -
- Your computer should have at least 8MB of
- physical memory for the guide to work properly.
-
