  3.      congratulations for  extracting  a  copy  of ╗wCNews½  =:-> I hope the
  4. installation  of  this  package  will be a lot easier, at least compared to
  5. the alpha release of ╗wCNews½ ...

  7. Some hints on how to set up the stuff:

  22.      The directories  ╗notebook½,  ╗doc½,  and ╗man½ contain various manual
  23. pages; most documentation for the supplied programs are stored in ╗man½.
  24. Information  on  how  (the original) CNews works internally can be found in
  25. ╗notebook½; ╗doc½ finally contains miscellaneous documentations.

  28.      ╗news½ should  be copied to ╗UUNEWS:½ (╗copy news uunews: all clone½);
  29. in  ╗wCNews½,  incoming  news  are stored in ╗UUNEWS:in.coming/½ by ╗rnews½
  30. and  feed  into  ╗relaynews½ by executing ╗unbatch½, usually per dcron on a
  31. regular  basis. Outgoing news are listed in ╗UUNEWS:out.going/site/togo½ --
  32. THUS  FOR  EACH  site  YOU  INTEND TO SEND NEWS TO (i. e. almost every site
  33. that  has an entry in UULIB:news/sys), YOU NEED TO CREATE A SUBDIRECTORY IN
  34. ╗UUNEWS:out.going/½  AS  ╗relaynews½ WILL COMPLAIN OTHERWISE. Eventually, a
  35. later  revision  will  include script to address this, but for now, it's up
  36. to you.

  39.      The files   in  ╗lib½,  especially  the  ╗lib/bin½  subdirectory,  are
  40. expected  to  be  moved  to  ╗UULIB:½. DO NOT, REPEAT NOT, SIMPLY ╗copy lib
  41. uulib:  all  clone½!  ╗lib½  CONTAINS  IMPORTANT CONFIGURATION FILES WHICH,
  42. WHEN  SIMPLY  COPIED,  WILL OVERWRITE YOURS, WHICH USUALLY RESULTS IN *BIG*
  43. TROUBLE! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
  44. NOTE:  You  don't  need  to put ╗UULIB:news/bin½ into your search path; but
  45. ╗newscontrol½  and  scripts  for  handling  control messages HAVE TO reside
  46. there.

  49.      Finally, the  files  in  ╗bin½ are intended to go to ╗UUCP:c½ -- or to
  50. anywhere  else  as  long  as  that place is in your global DOS search path.
  51. ╗relaynews½  and  company  EXPECT several programs residing somewhere along
  52. current DOS path, there is NO WAY to specify alternatives yet.
  53. NOTE:  If  you call ╗unbatch½ from your crontab, when starting ╗dcron½, the
  54. path  ALREADY  has  to  contain  the  place  where you have stored the UUCP
  55. binaries   (usually  ╗UUCP:c/½)  and  also  the  ones  of  ╗wCNews½  (here:
  56. ╗UUCP:c½, too =:->).

  59.      Regarding the  files  in  ╗contrib½:  I  got several requests for this
  60. stuff,   so   I   finally   decided  to  include  them  with  the  `wCNews'
  61. distribution. See sample scripts for handling of (new|rm)group messages ...

  64.      Please note  that the included `uux' and `uuxqt' are still preliminary
  65. versions,  based  on  1.15  sources;  they  work  for me, but you have been
  66. warned  =:->  `uuxqt'  checks the sending system in incoming uucp jobs with
  67. the  L.sys-file, thus you NEED to add an entry for EVERY host that shall be
  68. allowed to send you jobs -- otherwise, the will be REJECTED.

  71.      In case  of  problems  feel  free  to drop me a note; hopefully, there
  72. will  be  a  newsgroup  ╗alt.sys.amiga.cnews½ be the end of 1992 ... I also
  73. monitor      ╗alt.sys.amiga.uucp½      and      the      german      groups
  74. ╗de.comp.sys.amiga.uucp½    and   ╗amiga.uucp½,   choose   what   ever   is
  75. appropriate.

  78.      I also    included   two   scripts   (in   ╗bin½),   ╗bugreport½   and
  79. ╗featurerequest½  which  should  be  used  for reporting bugs or asking for
  80. features,  respectively.  The are able to either email or post your message
  81. --  for  email,  use  <bugs@hactar.hanse.de>,  for  posting, use one of the
  82. above groups.

  91. Please  use  ╗wCNews½  for ╗programm½, otherwise your report/request may be
  92. directed  to  the wrong place (I'm also developing a new sendmail and other
  93. stuff, thus specifying the program IS vital).

  95. The  reason  for  using  the  scripts  is:  I  monitor  both the traffic to
  96. <bugs@hactar.hanse.de> and the newsgroups ╗alt.sys.amiga.cnews½, ╗alt.sys.-
  97. amiga.uucp½, ╗de.comp.sys.amiga.uucp½, and ╗amiga.uucp½ with my ╗BugReport½
  98. program  which  scans  each  mail/posting  and,  if it looks like a script-
  99. generated   one,   it  is  filed  in  a  separate directory here, for later
  100. reference ...

  103.      One final  note:  I  have  received  at  least  three  bug  reports of
  104. ╗relaynews½  filing  a  new  article  locally  but  not  transmitting it to
  105. neighbouring  sites.  I'm not sure whether this bug was introduced by me or
  106. already  existed  in  the  original sources -- only two of the three poeple
  107. complaining about this were running my enhanced version ...
  108. Until  this  bug  has  been  found,  please  MAKE  SURE  that you specify a
  109. COMPLETE ╗ME:...½ line in ╗uulib:news/sys½, i. e. DO NOT USE
