  5. SYNOPSIS
  6.     PostNews <newsfile [-f user] [-r "realname"]
  7.          [-R reffile] [-x delfile] [newsfile]

  9. DESCRIPTION
  10.  
  11.     Postnews posts news by building a complete news article based on
  12.     the input from "newsfile", and if specified "reffile", and then
  13.     submitting that article to RNews.
  14.  
  15.     The newsfile may be either standard input (stdin), or the *last*
  16.     argument on the command line.
  17.  
  18.     The newsfile is normally generated by the user with some help from
  19.     a newsreader. It must contain a Newsgroups header. It may contain
  20.     "From", "Date", "Message-Id", "Organization", and "Subject" headers
  21.     as well. If a "Path" header is not the first line in the "newsfile"
  22.     it will be generated. If they are not present, they will be generated.

  24.     A "Distribution" header is recommended, but not required.

  26.     If -f is not specified, the username is extracted from the
  27.     environment first (ENV:USERNAME),  UserName config entry second.
  28.  
  29.     If -r is not specified, the user's real name is extracted from the
  30.     environment first (ENV:REALNAME),  RealName config entry second.

  32.     The username and realname are used in building a "From" header
  33.     if it isn't present. They are required entries to post news. A
  34.     "nodename" configuration variable is also required.
  35.  
  36.     If -R is specified, its associated file contains one or more header
  37.     lines (no blank lines) to be included in the news.  This file is
  38.     normally generated by the news reading program (for example, to
  39.     generate the References header) and is not usually editable by the
  40.     user.

  42.     Any files specified with the -x option are deleted after the news
  43.     is queued with RNews.  Up to 31 files may be specified.  This allows
  44.     you or the newsreader to RUN PostNews in the background and have it
  45.     clean up after itself when it is done.

  47.     If PostNews detects any errors, the temporary files are not removed;
  48.     and they can be resubmitted after the error is corrected.

  54.         By default, PostNews presumes that you are using the AmigaUUCP
  55.         RNews program, which understands the "-p" argument. If your
  56.         RNews program does *not*, then set "RNewsNoP Yes" in your
  57.         configuration file.
