  1. XXEncode and XXDecode are two programs that facilitate the sending
  2. of binary files through network mailers.  These have the same basic
  3. function as UUEncode and UUDecode, but are designed to eliminate the
  4. problems associated with the characters UUEncode uses.    See the
  5. XXEncode.ReadMe file in the archive for details on this.

  7. These Amiga versions are CLI-only and have several useful options that
  8. make them a pleasure to use (no, really!).  If a window-based version
  9. (mouse- rather than keyboard-oriented) becomes a desire of several
  10. users, I will implement such a version.

  12. The biggest audience these programs are intended for are those that
  13. use the ibm VM/XA network systems, which notoriously cannot use UUEncode
  14. because of character translation problems.  I happen to be one of these
  15. people, so I know the feeling of not being able to use the UUEncode
  16. program. (the vtvm1 address below is the cursed VM machine)

  18. Additionally, any Amiga users that frequently use UUEncode should give
  19. XXEncode a try to see how much more user-friendly (for lack of a better
  20. term) it is....many options, multi-colored-text messages, strong error
  21. control, checksum facility, etc.
