  4.     You can subscribe or unsubscribe to any of the various local mailing
  5. lists by sending email to <listserv@peti.GUN.de>.
  6.  
  7. The commands understood by the ListSERV program are:
  8.  
  9.     HELP
  10.           Lists this file. This is also sent whenever a message to ListSERV
  11.           is received from which no valid command could be parsed.
  12.  
  13.     HELP listname
  14.           Lists a brief description of the list requested.
  15.  
  16.     LIST [address]
  17.           Lists all mailing lists to which the given address is subscribed.
  18.           If you omit the 'address' the command will assume the mailbox is
  19.           in the from line.
  20.  
  21.     INDEX
  22.           Lists all the lists available for subscription.
  23.  
  24.     LONGINDEX
  25.           Lists all the lists and their descriptions.
  26.  
  27.     ADD [address] listname
  28.     DELETE [address] listname
  29.           Adds or deletes the given address to or from the list specified.
  30.           Mail is sent to the address given to confirm the add or delete
  31.           operation.  If you omit the 'address' the command will assume the
  32.           mailbox that is in the From: line of the message. Note that
  33.           SUBSCRIBE is a synonym for ADD; UNSUBSCRIBE for DELETE.

  35.           A special form for the ADD and the DELETE command is available
  36.           when the request is addressed to a certain mailing list with
  37.           '-request' appended. In this case ListSERV can guess the name of
  38.           the list you mean and you can leave the listname out. For example:

  40.                From: foo@bar.sub.org
  41.                To: testlist-request@peti.GUN.de
  42.                Subject:

  44.                ADD
  45.                ADD foo2@bar.sub.org
  46.  
  47.           The first ADD command will add foo@bar.sub.org to 'testlist' and
  48.           the second will add foo2 to the same list. However, this form is
  49.           NOT available when addressing 'listserv'.

  51.     DELETE-ALL [address]
  52.     UNSUBSCRIBE-ALL [address]
  53.           Unsubscribes given address from all mailing lists. Mail is sent
  54.           the address given to confirm the deletions. If you omit the
  55.           'address' the command will assume the mailbox that is in the
  56.           From: line of the message.

  58.     FAQ [listname]
  59.           Sends a list of "Frequently Asked Questions" for the appropriate
  60.           mailing list. If the listname parameter is omitted, a list of
  61.           available FAQs is sent instead.

  64.     A command must be the first word on each line in the message. Lines
  65. which do not start with a command word result in this file to be sent.  If
  66. no commands were found in the entire message, that message is completely
  67. ignored. A single message may contain multiple commands; some commands may
  68. result in a separate reply (namely FAQ, HELP) while others will just write
  69. something to the logfile. You will always receive a response to any command
  70. was found.

  72.     Please note that it IS possible to add or delete someone else's
  73. subscription to a mailing list. This facility is provided so that
  74. subscribers may alter their own subscriptions from a new or different
  75. computer account. There is therefore some potential for abuse; I have
  76. chosen to limit this by mailing a confirmation notification of any addition
  77. or deletion to the address added or deleted including a copy of the message
  78. which requested the operation. At least you can find out who's doing it to
  79. you.

  87.     Note that you mail submissions to a mailing list by addressing mail to
  88. the list's name at this site (e.g., niftylist@peti.GUN.de). If you have any
