  13. In order to use Internet Phone, you need...

  16. 1. Windows 3.1 or higher (not NT).
  17.  
  18. 2. 8MB of RAM recommended.
  19.  
  20. 3. 486SX 25Mhz or faster recommended.
  21.  
  22. 4. Windows compatible audio board, with speaker and microphone.
  23.  
  24. 5. TCP/IP software with WINSOCK 1.1 support.

  26. 6. A SLIP/PPP, or direct Internet connection (14,400 baud minimum).

  30. Installing the Internet Phone
  31. -----------------------------

  33. 1. Make sure that your microphone and speaker work properly,
  34.    by recording yourself using the Microsoft's Sound Recorder.
  35.    See "Preparing Your Audio Device" section, below.

  37. 2. Create a directory on your hard-disk
  38.     e.g.: MD C:\IPHONE
  39.  
  40. 3. From that directory, execute the self-extracting archive
  41.     C:\IPHONE> IPHONE06.EXE
  42.  
  43. 4. Choose File/Run and execute C:\IPHONE\ADDICONS
  44.    A new program-manager group file will be created, with icons for The
  45.    Internet Phone and Help file
  46.  
  47. 5. Double-click the Internet Phone icon.
  48.  
  49. 6. The first time you run the Internet Phone Software, a Quick Tour will
  50.    be suggested to you.

  52. 7. Start talking with the rest of the world!

  56. About The Internet Phone and IRC
  57. --------------------------------

  59. The Internet Phone  uses the IRC  to show the  currently on-line  users.
  60. The  actual talk is done directly between the PC's running the  Internet
  61. Phone, and NOT via the IRC.

  65. Selecting an IRC server
  66. -----------------------
  67.  
  68. In order  to use the  Internet Phone, you  must be connected  to  an IRC
  69. server.   It is best to select the one  nearest to you, in order to  get
  70. the best connection.

  72. Once you're connected to the IRC, you can call any other  Internet Phone
  73. user  that is connected to the IRC network.   There is no need for  both
  74. of you to use the same IRC server.
  75.  
  76. Please note that  by  "nearest"  we  mean  over  the  net,  but  usually
  77. geographically close places have a better network connection.
  78.  
  79. The  first time you connect, you can  select a server from the  Publicly
  80. Accessible Servers.   It might not  be the closest to  you, but it  will
  81. enable you to start talking.

  83. Later  you can try and find a server  better suited for you.  Note  that
  84. many  servers accept connections from specific areas.  Some are  limited
  85. to a country, some to a specific campus.

  95. 1. Check the TroubleShooting from the Help menu in the Internet Phone.
  96.    It contains a list of problems and solutions.

  99.    to contact VocalTec.
