  20.  **a. How to Play Checkers**

  23.         Each player starts with 12 pieces, either 12 black pieces or 12 red
  24.         pieces. The black pieces are set up on the first 12 black squares and
  25.         the red pieces are set up on the first 12 black squares on the opposite
  26.         side of the board.
  27.  
  28.         Players alternate turns moving one diagonal square at a time. In this
  29.         version of checkers the red player moves first, followed by the black
  30.         player. A player can only move to unoccupied squares. Once a piece
  31.         moves to the opposite side of the board it is "crowned" and it is then
  32.         called a "king". A "king" can move backward or forward one square at a
  33.         time, as the limits of the board permit.
  34.  
  35.         Players must "jump" an opponent's piece in the next square if the
  36.         square beyond it is vacant. If another "jump" is available from the
  37.         new square, then the player must continue jumping until it runs
  38.         out of jumps. An opponent's piece that is jumped is "captured" and
  39.         removed from the board.

  41.         To win at checkers you must either capture all the pieces of your
  42.         opponent, or block your opponent's forces so they cannot move. The
  43.         player making the last move wins.

  48.         To run Strategist Checkers, you'll need the following system:

  50.                 An IBM-compatible, 386 or better computer
  51.                 Two Megabytes of RAM
  52.                 A VGA monitor
  53.                 Windows 3.1, or Windows 95
  54.                 Hard Disk with two Megabytes free
  55.                 Mouse

  57.         You'll have more fun with these recommended additions:

  59.                 Pentium processor
  60.                 Four Megabytes of RAM

  62.  **c. Installation and Setup**

  65.         1. To get started with Strategist Checkers on a hard disk:
  66.                 a. Insert the Strategist Checkers disk in your
  67.                         floppy disk drive ('A', or 'B')
  68.                 b. From Windows 'run' A:\setup or B:\setup" and press
  69.                         Enter.
  70.                 c. Follow the screen directions.

  75.         To start the game, double click on the Strategist Checkers
  76.         icon in Windows.

  78.  **2. Troubleshooting & Technical Support**

  81.         If you have a problem, chances are you can fix it without
  82.         needing to get help. Try the following:

  84.         If the game says you have insufficient memory, or if it crashes,
  85.         try rebooting without loading any TSR programs, such as your
  86.         disk cache.
  87.  
  88.         If the screen is to dark to see, try turning up the brightness
  89.         on your monitor.

  91.         If you are unable to fix your problems, try contacting us via

  94.         you encountered the problem. Also include any error messages
