  1.         Configure Help
  2.         
  3. This   screen  lets  you  tell
  4. Game-Maker about  the hardware
  5. information which is  specific
  6. to your system.  
  7.  
  8. Yellow  rectangles   highlight
  9. the  current  hardware  infor-
  10. mation.    
  11.  
  12. To enter  new  hardware infor-
  13. mation, use the  mouse  or the
  14. arrow  keys to select  a  menu
  15. item;   then press <Enter>  or
  16. <Return>  to  change  to  that
  17. selection.   Selecting an item
  18. highlights  it with  a  yellow
  19. rectangle  and  unselects  the
  20. previously selected item.

  22. Sound And Music:
  23.  
  24. If  you  own  a Sound  Blaster
  25. compatible sound board you can
  26. listen to  digitized sound and
  27. music while playing games.
  28.  
  29. If you have  a  Sound  Blaster
  30. Pro and you installed  it nor-
  31. mally,   the  correct  set  up
  32. should be highlighted.  Other-
  33. wise, you first  need to enter
  34. which Port and Interrupt  your
  35. Sound  Blaster is set to  use.
  36. If  you  do  not know what  to
  37. choose, try experimenting.  If
  38. the  port  is  wrong,  neither
  39. music nor sound will work.  If
  40. the interrupt is wrong but the
  41. port is  correct,  music  will
  42. work but sound will not.
  43.  
  44. You  also  need  to  specify a
  45. Sound Blaster driver for sound
  46. to work.   The  default driver
  47. is  called  "sndblast.drv" and
  48. is   located  in  the  current
  49. directory (.\).   SNDBLAST.DRV
  50. and .\ are preinstalled in the
  51. two  menu fields found on  the
  52. lower    left    side  of  the
  53. configureation  menu.     This
  54. driver is compatible  with the
  55. "CT-Voice"    driver  used  by
  56. Creative  Labs' Sound Blaster.

  58. If  the   preinstalled  driver
  59. does not work,  then  use  the
  60. driver  that  your sound  card
  61. supplies.    Put  the driver's
  62. full name  in  the first field
  63. (e.g., CT-VOICE.DRV), and  put
  64. its path in the  second  field
  65. (e.g., C:\sound\).

  68. Video Cards:
  69.   
  70. Ninty-nine  percent of the VGA
  71. chips will  be  correctly  de-
  72. tected  automatically.    Thus
  73. you should leave "AUTO-DETECT"
  74. chosen  unless  you have video
  75. problems.  
  76.  
  77. If  during  a  game  you  move
  78. vertically  and the  character
  79. seems to disappear, or  random
  80. dots  scroll  onto the screen,
  81. your  VGA chip was incorrectly
  82. detected.     To  remedy  this
  83. problem, select your chip type
  84. from the menu.
  85.  
  86. Video    card    manufacturers
  87. usually  obtain   their  video
  88. controller chips from  one  of
  89. the  chip  vendors  that  this
  90. software supports.  So if  the
  91. name of your video board isn't
  92. on our  list,  just experiment
  93. with  different video  choices
  94. until  one  works.    The  few
  95. boards  that  won't  work with
  96. any  of  the  choices  are not
  97. supported.
