- AWeb 1.2b demo
- ==============
-
-
- INTRODUCTION
- ------------
-
- AWeb is a World Wide Web browser for the Amiga computer.
-
- It offers the following features:
-
- o AWeb can use a wide range of TCP-stacks: AmiTCP/IP, I-Net225, AS-225
- or compatible. Without TCP stack running, you can still view local files.
-
- o AWeb uses extensive internal multitasking, which leads to total
- asynchroneous and parallel network access. Images are starting to load
- while the document is still loading. It is possible to follow a link
- while the previous document is still loading. A separate network status
- window shows all pending network and local file accesses. All network
- accesses can be interrupted immediately.
-
- o The HTML-2 standard is fully supported, including forms. Some of
- the most important so-called HTML-3 extensions are also supported.
- For buggy pages not conforming to the standard, AWeb offers a
- compatibility mode.
-
- o AWeb supports the use of proxies for HTTP, FTP, Gopher and Telnet.
- Because some proxies can't handle forms or other special cases, the use
- of proxies can be temporarily disabled from the menu.
-
- o The HTTP and Gopher protocols are supported internally. By using
- external programs, FTP, Mailto, Telnet and News can be used too.
- HTTP user authorization is supported.
-
- o AWeb lets you load all images, delay all image loading, or load only
- clickable maps and delay other images. For delayed images, the ALT text
- is taken into account. Transparent GIFs are supported. The 24-bit picture
- datatype (picturedtV43) is supported.
-
- o To improve network speed, host names and network addresses are cached
- so addresses are looked up only once during a session.
-
- o AWeb can open it's windows on the default public screen, on a named
- public screen or open its own screen.
-
- o AWeb has a hierarchical hotlist, with options to group entries.
- In extension to its own hotlist, AWeb can read other hotlists, like
- those of AMosaic and early IBrowse betas.
-
- o An advanced settings requester is integrated in the program.
-
- o AWeb has an ARexx interface, and a unique and powerful shell command
- interface.
-
-
-
- REQUIREMENTS
- ------------
-
- AWeb needs:
- o OS 3.0 or better
- o At least 2MB of memory, preferably more
- o Either AmiTCP/IP, I-Net225 or AS-225 if you want to access the Internet
- o Appropriate picture datatypes (GIF, JPEG) to show inlined images
-
-
-
- VERSION 1.2b
- ------------
- This 1.2b version has some improvements compared to the previous 1.2
- demo version:
-
- o Fixed bugs:
- o Enforcer hit when executing ARexx GET command
- o <HR> within list was rendered indented
- o Last MIME setting was saved twice in the settings file
- o <OL START=n> started with n+1
- o <OL START=32766> bullets became negative
- o Hit form text area 'E' button and let editor open overlapping window on
- same screen, then window wasn't refreshed if editor window was closed.
- o Didn't follow the "garbage in, garbage out" rule correctly on <P>
- tags within <PRE>. Fixed to treat <P> in preformatted text
- as two newlines.
- o Didn't send "Pragma: no-cache" when requesting a reload.
- o Displayed extra blank line between bullet and text for <LI><P>text</P>
- o If title in hotlist contains < or & then HTML hotlist didn't display
- correctly
- o Images weren't refreshed correctly when scrolled from underneath an
- overlapping window
- o HTTP response wasn't recognized when first block received was 1 byte
- o Now sets the file comment to the URL when saving or downloading.
- o Added SCREENTOFRONT and SCREENTOBACK ARexx commands.
- o Added CACHE ARexx command.
- o Added GET ACTIVEPORT ARexx command.

- INSTALLATION
- ------------
-
- To install AWeb, just double-click the Install icon.
-
- NOTE: During installation of AWeb, the installer tool might give an
- error message like: "unable to compile script".
- This is most likely caused by some misbehaving application installation,
- that has copied an obsolete version of the Commodore Installer utility to
- your hard drive. Make sure the Installer version in the SYS:C drawer is
- "installer_2 2.17 (1993-02-13)" or better. This version can be found on
- the Amiga Workbench 3.x Install floppy disk.
- Also, delete any copies of the Installer program from your SYS:Utilities
- drawer.
-
- If you want to try AWeb before a permanent installation, make sure to
- double-click the "MakeAssign" icon first. It makes the necessary assigns
- that AWeb needs to find the ClassAct classes.
