Transcription: Volcanic islands are formed from the tops of volcanoes that rise up from the seabed. The island of Surtsey, near Iceland, was formed in this way. Between November 1963 and June 1967, the island rose more than 289 metres from the ocean floor, leaving it 170 metres above sea level.
