NOTE: This document supercedes all printed documentation.
INSTALLATION
To install the necessary system files, just double-click the “Installer” icon and follow the on-screen instructions. Although we have provided a custom installation option (for advanced users only), we strongly recommend that the Easy Install (default) option be selected. The installer loads the QuickTime and Sound Manager extensions, the Sound control Panel, and a very small (but essential) preferences/bookmark file to your system.
Choosing the Easy Install option allows the installer program to automatically evaluate your individual system and install only those files necessary while removing and replacing outdated versions when appropriate.
Power Macintosh
Yolanda Bergman's Good Health, Great Food was created with Macromedia Director 6.0.1 for Macintosh. The applications are "Fat binary" files, meaning that they can be run on either older 68k Macs, or in Native PowerPC mode on Apple, and Apple-compatible machines with the PowerPC processor. This CD-ROM is also designed to be used on Windows 3.x, Windows95, and WindowsNT machines.
Which Application Do I launch?
If you have a computer with only 8MB of RAM you should run the Good Health, Great Food(8 MB) version, otherwise launch the Good Health, Great Food application. Having more RAM allows us to preload upcoming images and cache others that have been recently viewed.
How much RAM do I have?
If you do not know how much RAM you have, it is easy to determine:
When you first startup your computer (or anytime you are in the Finder), click on the Apple icon in the top left-hand corner of your screen and drag down to “About This Macintosh...” An Information box will pop up when you release the mouse button. Next to the words “Total Memory” (or “Total Physical Memory” if you are using Virtual Memory or RAMDoubler) will be a number. If this number is less than “9,000” you fall into the “8 MB” category. If it is a larger number you should be able to use the regular version.
QUICKTIME™ 2.5
Yolanda Bergman's Good Health, Great Food comes with Apple’s QuickTime™ 2.5 for Macintosh on the CD-ROM. DíAMAR has utilized QuickTime™ in order to provide you with many instructional videos (QuickTime movies) to enhance the learning experience.
Installation occurs automatically if you choose the default Easy Install option in the installer. If you choose to do a Custom Installation (not recommended) it is recommended that this version of QuickTime™ replace any older versions in the Extensions folder within the active System folder.
SOUND MANAGER
In order to get the most effective use of the sound tracks in your new CD-ROM, we have provided the most recent version of Sound Manager, and the most current release of the Sound Control Panel from Apple Computer.
Installation occurs automatically if you choose the default Easy Install option in the installer. If you choose to do a Custom Installation (not recommended) it is important that this version of Sound Manager replace any older versions in the Extensions folder within the active System folder. The Sound Control Panel is also the most recent version and we recommend that it also be used to replace older versions.
SOUND NOT WORKING ON AV MACS OR PERFORMAS?
In order for the sounds and music in the application to be audible, the sound control panel must be set to CD Playthrough. To change this setting choose the Sound control panel (control panels can be found under the Apple menu). Click the Alert Sounds pop-up menu select the Sound In item. Click the options button, then click the Internal CD button to select it. Next, click to select the check-box next to Playthrough and click OK. Your sound control panel is now set correctly for using this CD-ROM. Close the Sound control panel when you’re finished.
If you have a Macintosh Performa 5215, 5260, 6230, 6300, or 6320, please check your Extensions folder (located inside the System Folder) for a file called "SoundLib". Apple recommends that if this file is present, you should delete it, as it was included on your Macintosh by mistake and can cause a loss of sound.
