- This is a program I wrote to help me with some of the finer details of the
- bitmapped Windows environment. It is written with Borland's ObjectWindows
- Library and C++.
-
- I have not included help because the program is pretty simple (especially
- if you're the author). When the program loads, it takes a picture of the
- current state of the screen and displays this in it's main window. Press
- the left mouse button and move the mouse around to move the picture of the
- screen around in the window. If you want to center in on a particular
- feature, select Scan! from the menu and place the cursor over the item you
- want to see, then click the left mouse button again to stop Scanning.
-
- You may change magnification at any time. The magnification with grid
- option is there so you can count the height or width of a particular screen
- element in pixels. You may also run other programs after starting Extreme
- Closeup and use the Refresh! menu item to take a new picture of the screen.
-
- Once you have zoomed in on a particular section of the screen, you may press
- Ctrl-INS or select File/Copy to copy the current view to the Clipboard to
- move it to a bitmap editor for further work.
-
- This program makes 2 large bitmaps in memory. The first bitmap is the size
- of screen, and the second is the size of the Extreme Closeup window.
- Because of this, you may run out of memory trying to startup the program.
- If this happens, the window will just be black. Sometimes you can get an
- image by making the window smaller and selecting Refresh!; if this doesn't
- work you will have to start closing apps and trying Refresh! again.
-
- There is one problem I know of currently: the program will lock up when run
- from Norton Desktop for Windows (NDW) version 1.0. There was a bug in the
- early release of NDW 1.0 which causes problems with a few commercial
- programs and apparently with OWL. I believe Symantec has released a patch
- to NDW 1.0 which fixes the problem. But NDW 2.0 is also out and it comes
- with even more free stuff than NDW 1.0, so I upgraded.
-
- Please let me know if you find any other problems or have any comments.
