  1. If you're reading this *before* you installed the software, give
  2. yourself a gold star on your brownie chart. You're one of the
  3. relatively few people who read the documentation before installing
  4. the software. You are of clearly superior character.
  5. Congratulations!
  6.  
  7. On the other hand, if you're reading this *after* you've installed
  8. the software, don't worry. You're doing what almost everyone does
  9. when they install software, including me. And knowing this, I set
  10. it up so you won't have any problems anyway.

  12. The installation program creates a directory (C:\WIN500) as the
  13. default, but you're welcome to change the directory and drive if
  14. you wish. The installation program copies the files to
  15. subdirectories within the directory and creates a Program Manager
  16. Group. You'll need about 6Mb of space on the disk you install the
  17. software on. (The installation procedure will check to make sure
  18. there's enough room before it starts installing.)
  19.  
  20. NOTE: The installation program makes *no* changes to the WIN.INI
  21. or SYSTEM.INI files.

  23. To install the software: 
  24. 1. Go to the File menu on the Program Manager and select Run.
  25. 2. In the dialog box, select INSTALL.EXE on this disk.
  26. 3. Click OK in the dialog box to run INSTALL.EXE.

  28. That's all there is to it! The installation procedure will take
  29. care of most of the details. You'll need to provide some
  30. information occasionally, but it's mostly automatic. The README.TXT
  31. file (displayed at the end of the installation procedure) will give
  32. you important additional information about the programs you've just
  33. installed.

  35. NOTE: These disks are companions to The Windows Shareware 500,
  36. published by Ventana Press. Not all of the software contained on
  37. these disks is free; much of it is shareware and requires payment
  38. if you intend to use it regularly. Please refer to the individual
  39. documentation and Help files for each program on the disks for
  40. information about payment.
