- Update from V1.05 to V1.06
-
-
-
- ================( ISDN )====================
-
- A number of lines are converted to ISDN (including the BBS line)
-
- But all the numbers are unchanged !!!
-
- It was a little messy, because they programmed the wrong numbers
- in the DuoVox (A/B converter).
-
- The BBS is still reachable at +31-599-564696
- but still only at 14k4 baud (V32B/V42B).
-
- The only ISDN device is a 3COM/USrobotics courier internal ISDN/V34 modem
- in a Pentium 233 Mhz machine.
- It isn't mine but I have access to it, 64K baud to Aminet :)
-
- I hope the line is of better quality now, the last weeks
- I got some pathetic connects, like a connect at 4800 baud
- and then retraining step for step to 14k4.
-
-
-
- ================( RIP )====================
-
- After the previous update was send I found a new file on
- Aminet in the BBS directory with loads of RIP screen and Icons.
-
- RIPGRAPHICSP_I.LHA 1MegaByte (1002854 bytes)
-
- (NOT included in this archive ;)
-
-
- I includes some incredible things like a file of 240K which was
- a picture of an Amiga drawing with a color drawing of a
- female/robot over it. Not very practicale because it takes
- a little more then a minute to be transmitted on 28k8 but
- local it is very beautifull. Most screens were only a few KB.
-
- I made a command that showed all 98 screens one after each other
- on the BBS and it didn't crash ;)
-
- But a little drawback is that a number of screens use Icons,
- which are included but are only shown (very quickly) when
- they are already on your disk. So if you want users to see
- them .. they have to install them first. But there where some
- incredable icons .. like a sceen filling eagle.
-
- Also I found it contained some text about RIPscrip 2.0
- (layout.rip) which was finished like two years ago.
- Well at that time only the MS-Dos version was available.
- I thougth V1.54 was the last version because everyone
- used that one. The company has gone commercial with V1.54.
-
- From what I understand V2.00 is an extention of V1.54
- with digitized sound, hires true color JPEG images with
- scaling color mapping and image replacement in real time.
-
- <= start of little quote =>
-
- The selection of fonts is virtually unlimited, because
- RIPscrip 2.0 can import Adobe(tm) Type 1 and TrueType(tm) fonts.
- RIPscrip 2.0 can dynamically integrate graphics, photos, and text.
- The new device-independent bitmap (BMP/DIB) icon format gives sysops
- cross-platform compatibility for their screens, so the screens
- will be virtually identical on both PC and Macintosh computers.
-
- <= end of little quote =>
-
- I don't have found any docs on RIPscrip V2.0 yet, but compaired
- with the previous version (V1.54) it has some very BIG extensions.
-
- Version 1.54 was all about simple drawing commands, saving and
- loading pieces of the screen to disk and rendering buttons.
-
- Added in 2.00 are things even JPEG viewers cant' do.
- I don't know if it is actually integrated in BBS programs
- but it would take an incredible amount of code, and the
- executable would grow very big.
- Also this would mean colleting and integrating third
- party source code because things as JPEG come as demo
- source code.
-
- But the biggest problem is the terminal and editor software.
- They are all for V1.54
- The only programs I'm aware of are the commercial PC and Mac
- terminals mentioned in the doc.
-
- Anyway .. the question is if anyone would use the new commands,
- because sending of digitized sound and pictures become
- neccesary (and actually making the screens).
- But an implementation of just V1.54 only is very usefull.
- Screens that follow the V2.00 specs should be rendered
- fine on the "other side" if it has an V2.00 spec terminal
- but on the local V1.54 compliant side only the new features
- are left out. Also I don't think my (OCS) A2000/A2630 is
- the right system for V2.00 because users will be waiting
- while my systems is still displaying the JPEG files, and it
- has no true color anyway.
-
- Has anyone played with the RIPscrip since the last update ??
- Has anyone encountered any problems ??
- Is anyone actually thinking of using it in their BBSes ? :)
- If no one is using it I will still be busy with getting
- everything compliant to V1.54 but won't be searching for
- the V2.00 specs.

- Utils: BBS, TrionRM, menu
- Doors:
- Cfg:
-
-
-
- -In the previous version the length of Message section names
- and Tag names could only be 29 characters. That was a
- problem if you wanted to make a longer description of a message
- section or if you gate newsgroups with a very long name.
- So in this version they can be 79 characters.
- The file section names are still 49 characters max.
-
- This change made it necessary to recompile all programs
- that use services of TrionRM. So I took this opertunity
- to remove a few variables in the MsgSection and FileSection
- code that aren't needed anymore.
-
- !! These changes mean that the recompiled programs are not
- !! compatible with V1.05 and earlier.
- You can not use these utils with earlier versions.
- So this update has no big changes to prevent it from
- being unuseable if there were new bugs.
-
- Recompiled are:
-
- TrionRM, BBS, TMP, AreaFix, TBU, CheckFileBase, FileEd,
- Freq, GuiMod, ListNodes, LOP, MailEd, MaintMod,
- PointScan, TrionAllFiles, TrionTick, UserEd,
- WaitNodes, RMCommander.
-
-
- -Buildin some E-mail support in Netmail message sections.
-
- If you have a netmail section you use for E-mail you can
- add an 'I' flag (for Internet) to the sections in the mailareas.cfg.
-
- When you write a message in this section the BBS will
- ask for an E-mail address and put a:
- "to: e-mail_address" line in the message at the position
- of the first line.
-
- When you reply at a message in this section the message
- is scanned for a REPLYADDR kludge line and if an E-mail
- address is found it asks if you want to use that one or
- suply an other one.
-
- #040 [NWI] 100 TRION:mail/ "[I-net] E-mail" "E-Mail" 2:283/326.99
-
- -Added an option to make an E-mail section easier to use.
-
- When you put a line with GATE and a node number in the trion-X.cfg
- that node number will be used to send all messages to written
- in a message section with the I flag .. see above.
-
-
- ; Gate address for E-mail
-
- GATE 2:284/324.999
-
-
-
- -Doubled the buffer in the menu compiler from 8K to 16K
- because it chocked on a menu command with 300 lines.
- (the one that displayed 98 RIP files)
-
-
-
-
- -Fixed a little problem with RIPscrip.
- The button code and the icon save/load code used the wrong
- text variable.
- So when you clicked on an a button sometimes the RIPcommand
- after the button was send after the command which was
- ment to send.
- And loading of buttons was a problem because the buttons
- couldn't be found.
-
- -Added some code to skip unknown RIPscrip commands.
-
- -Enhanced the baseline position with RIPscrip text.
- Also added the heigth of the character. I geuss the
- system RIP was developed on uses the the underside
- of characters as base instead of the upside.
-
- -I accidently made the maximum piece of the screen that
- can be grabbed a pixel to small.
-
- -Added a "Carriage return" (no "NewLine") after the clearscreen
- code in the ClrScr menu command. Because if you would use a
- RIPscreen after that command the first line wouldn't
- be interpreted because RIP code should start at the beginning
- of a line (except when special codes are used).
- But the ANSI code isn't really needed because there are
- RIP codes to clear to screen .. but of cause not Clr command.
