  8. INTRODUCTION
  9.  
  10. This archive contains a demonstration version of Personal Paint 7.1. The
  11. software has no functional limitations, except for a pattern of "DEMO"
  12. symbols which appears over the image when saving and printing.
  13.  
  14. For space reasons and for licensing restrictions, this version does not
  15. include all of the input/output modules, artwork, tutorials and
  16. documentation which are part of the commercial package.
  17.  
  18. The following file formats are supported by the commercial version, but
  19. not by this demonstration version:

  22.  - BMP (Windows and OS/2)
  23.  - PCX
  24.  - PBM, PGM and PPM
  25.  - Raw Binary Data
  26.  - TIM
  27.  - C Source Code (Save Only)
  28.  - ASCII (Save Only)
  29.  - JPEG (Load Only)
  30.  - Photo CD (Load Only)
  31.  - Amiga DataTypes (Load Only)
  32.  - Plasma (Load Only)

  34. The lack of the GIF I/O module, in particular, implies that the scripts
  35. which load and save "GIF animations" do not work. In general, the GIF
  36. module is only included (under license of Unisys Corporation) in the
  37. commercial Personal Paint packages published by Cloanto, and not in
  38. demonstration versions, cover disk versions, and in software bundled
  39. with the Amiga computers.

  41. The commercial package also includes full documentation in English,
  42. German and Italian (on CD-ROM), special libraries compiled for
  43. different "Classic Amiga" CPUs, additional user interface languages,
  44. tutorial animations, a collection of artwork and some "bonus" software.

  47. ADDITIONAL USER INTERFACE LANGUAGES
  48.  
  49. By default, Personal Paint 7.1 tries to run in the system default
  50. language. This demonstration archive contains 17 user interface files,
  51. all using the default (Latin) Personal 8 font. Additional user interface
  52. languages and fonts are stored in separate "PPUIText_...88" archives,
  53. also in the "biz/cloan" directory on Aminet (please note the version
  54. number: Personal Paint 7.1 requires version 88 of the user interface
  55. files). To install a new program language, just follow the instructions
  56. contained in the respective archive.

  59. INSTALLATION
  60.  
  61. To install Personal Paint 7.1 to the hard disk, simply copy the "PPaint"
  62. drawer to the desired location. Assigning "PPAINT:" to the installation
  63. drawer is useful for the system to find the Default Tools, if used by
  64. artwork files, but is not strictly required by Personal Paint.
  65.  
  66. If there are different versions of Personal Paint installed, "PPAINT:"
  67. should either not be assigned, or it should be assigned to the directory
  68. containing the software which is used. Trying to run Personal Paint 6.4,
  69. for example, when "PPAINT:" is assigned to the directory containing the
  70. Personal Paint 7.1 demonstration software, may cause the older software
  71. not to load properly (as it would look for some items in the directory
  72. containing the demonstration version).

  77. The new features of the Personal Paint 7.1 CD-ROM (compared to version
  78. 7.0) include:

  80.  - New and improved file formats, including GIF (licensed by Unisys),
  81.    24-bit DataTypes, PBM and TIM (loads TIM graphics files directly from
  82.    Sony PlayStation CDs, with extended TIM saving options features for
  83.    developers)

  85.  - Professional Internet features like GIF animations, a map editor, and
  86.    everything needed to achieve maximum image quality in a compact size
  87.  
  88.  - 182 ARexx commands, with dozens of scripts directly accessible from
  89.    the toolbar

  91.  - New Rexx scripts, including animation paths
  92.  
  93.  - Improved support for environments like Siamese RTG and UAE
  94.  
  95.  - Improved and extended manuals (in English, German and Italian)

  110. included on the Amiga Forever CD-ROM (containing the entire Personal
  111. Paint package and bonus software, except for the GIF utilities by third
  112. parties).
