- ADinf INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:
-
- To install ADinf in your machine,
-
- 1) insert the original diskette into drive A (or B),
- 2) type A: (or B:) and press <Enter>,
- 2) type INSTALL and press <Enter>.
-
- Depending on whether this is the first time your are installing in your
- system or whether you are upgrading an earlier version, the Setup program
- behaves differently.
-
- IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU ARE INSTALLING ADINF IN YOUR MACHINE: on
- pressing <Enter> after typing the installation command line, the setup
- program will prompt you to
-
- ┌──────── Type a directory for installing ADinf ─────────╖
- │ C:\ADINF_ ║██
- ╘════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝██
- ██████████████████████████████████████████████████████████
-
- If you accept the directory proposed by the Setup program, press <Enter>.
- Or, type a different pathname and press <Enter>. If you yourself have not
- created a directory for installing ADinf, on pressing <Enter>, the Setup
- will respond as follows:
-
- ┌────────────────────────── ! ───────────────────────────╖
- │ Directory not found! ║██
- │ ║██
- │ C:\ADinf ║██
- │ CREATE DON'T CREATE ║██
- ╘════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝██
- ██████████████████████████████████████████████████████████
-
- Press <Enter> to create a directory. Then the Setup creates a directory
- and after copying the files to it, displays a query:
-
- ┌───────────────────────── ?! ───────────────────────────╖
- │ ║██
- │ Add ADinf to AUTOEXEC.BAT file ? ║██
- │ ║██
- │ ADD DON'T ADD ║██
- ╘════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝██
- ██████████████████████████████████████████████████████████
-
- If you want to tack ADinf to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, press <Enter>; else
- choose DON'T ADD. If you choose ADD, on pressing <Enter>, the Setup
- program will prompt you to mark the drives you want to put under check by
- ADinf:
-
- ┌───────────────────────╖
- │ C D E F G H ║██
- │ ^ ║██
- ╘═══════════════════════╝██
- █████████████████████████
-
- Moving the arrowhead cursor with <Right>, <Left> or <Tab> keys from one
- letter to another, mark the drives with <Space> or <Ins> key for which
- you want to create diskinfo tables. Press <Enter> to finish selection.
-
- Then the screen will show your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, typing each entry in a
- separate line. Using <Up> or <Down> keys, move the selection bar to the
- desired line and press <Enter> for tacking ADinf to your AUTOEXEC.BAT
- file at the place you have selected. Old AUTOEXEC.BAT file will be
- renamed to AUTOEXEC.ADI. If you don't want to modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT
- file you may press <Esc>.
-
-
- Then the Setup program will respond as follows:
-
- ┌──────────────────────── ?! ────────────────────────────╖
- │ ║██
- │ Create ADinf tables ? ║██
- │ ║██
- │ CREATE DON'T CREATE ║██
- ╘════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝██
- ██████████████████████████████████████████████████████████
-
- If you answer CREATE then before building up diskinfo tables, the Setup
- program prompts you to change the default name of the table file
- Adinf══.░░░. The point is viruses specifically designed to dodge
- detection by ADinf may appear in future. Today there is already a virus
- which tries to delete the files whose names begin with the letter
- combination ADIN. For this reason the Setup program invites you to
- rename the diskinfo tables file. You can change to any name you like,
- the main idea is to goof such viruses. Regardless of whether or not you
- rename the file, press <Enter> to finish installation.
-
-
- IF YOU ARE UPGRADING AN OLDER VERSION ALREADY INSTALLED IN YOUR MACHINE,
- the installation procedure is the same as described above, but the Setup
- program will ask your permission to overwrite the old ADinf version in the
- system. It will not prompt you to tack ADinf to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file nor
- will it create diskinfo tables afresh because later versions recognize and
- use the tables created by earlier versions.
