- AMW 1.3 has been configured to support the new switches and
- options of PKZIP version 2.04c. Unfortunately, version 2.04c is
- proving to be a flawed product with many, many bugs. New-Ware
- recommends that you do not use version 2.04c of PKZIP.EXE and instead
- use version 1.10 of PKZIP.EXE in conjunction with version 2.04c of
- PKUNZIP.EXE. This strategy will avoid the bugs in inherent in version
- 2.04c of PKZIP.EXE while at the same time providing the capability to
- extract all ZIP variants.
-
- If you insist upon using version 2.04c with ArcMaster, New-Ware
- strongly recommends that you configure AM with the following version
- 2.04c options set as indicated:
-
- [X] -+ No EMS {disables EMS use}
- [X] -- No XMS {disables XMS use}
- [X] -~ No Network {disables Net operations}
- [X] -) No DPMI {disables DPMI support}
-
- You can access these options via the Backup button when in the PKZIP
- dialog.
-
- You may also be forced to disable other options.
-
- New-Ware strongly recommends that you do NOT rely upon the PKZIP
- backup functions to archive your valuable data.
-
- New-Ware strongly recommends against using the quick format
- capability of PKZIP due to the fact that this function zeros all FAT
- entries and does NOT preserve any FAT bad sector marking for the
- target diskette.
-
- Finally, if you are using version 1.10 of PKZIP and you keep getting
- a PKZIP 1.10 help/info screen when you attempt to ZIP files, check the
- option settings in the PKZIP dialog. This behavior indicates that
- PKZIP is detecting a command line switch that it does not know how to
- handle (a version 2.04c switch/option) which causes it to default to
- the help screen instead of performing file compression functions.
