  164. IBM OS2 C comes with a Presentation Manager (PM) interactive application that 
  165. you use for the installation. 
  166.  
  167.  
  168. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 33.1. Installation options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  170. There are three installation options: 
  171.  
  172.  o IBM-supplied-default first time installation 
  173.  o customized first time installation 
  174.  o update installation 
  175.  In both of the first time installations, the PM application creates all the 
  176.  necessary directories and sub-directories and copies the IBM OS2 C compiler 
  177.  and selected files to the appropriate locations on your hard drive. You have 
  178.  the choice of accepting the default installation, or customizing the 
  179.  installation (by selecting, for example, which standard libraries to install). 
  180.  
  181.  If you are installing an update, only new files will be copied to your hard 
  182.  drive. The update installation procedure assumes that all the necessary 
  183.  directories and subdirectories already exist.

  194.   1. At an OS/2 command line, type the name of the installation program: <name 
  195.      of the IBMC installation program> 
  196.  
  197.   2. After the IBM OS2 C logo, the first panel of the installation program 
  198.      appears.  Choose the First Time Default installation option from the 
  199.      Install pull down menu, as shown in .

  210.      The only installation option that you can change is the name of the 
  211.      directory that will contain the  files. (All other options on the panel 
  212.      are grey, which means that you cannot change them.) The default name for 
  213.      this directory is C. If you want to change the name of this directory, the 
  214.      installation program will default to drive C if you do not specify a 
  215.      drive. 
  216.  
  217.      There are three action buttons at the bottom of this panel: OK, Cancel and 
  218.      Help. You can select one of these buttons at any time. 
  219.  
  220.     o Select OK to proceed with the installation. 
  221.     o Select Cancel to cancel the installation and return to the first panel. 
  222.     o Select Help to display online help. 
  223.  
  224.   4. To continue with the default installation, click on the OK action button. 
  225.      For a list of default contents, please see Reference 
  226.  
  227.   5. The installation program checks to see that there is enough space for all 
  228.      the files on the drive which you specified.  If there is not, a warning 
  229.      messages appears, and you can continue or cancel the installation. 
  230.  
  231.   6. The installation program checks to see if the directory you specified 
  232.      exist already.  If it does, a warning message appears, and you can 
  233.      continue or cancel the installation.  If you continue, and some file names 
  234.      already in the directory are the same as  files being installed, the 
  235.      existing files will be overwritten. 
  236.  
  237.   7. The installation program installs all the files, and a pop-up screen with 
  238.      an OK button appears when it is complete.  Click on the OK button to 
  239.      return to the main installation window, and then select EXIT from the 
  240.      Install pull-down menu to leave the installation program.

  248. Go through the following steps to install  for the first time if you want to 
  249. change the installation defaults All the necessary directories and 
  250. subdirectories will be created for you. For a list of the files in these 
  251. directories, see Reference

  253.   1. At an OS/2 command line, type: (name of the IBMC installation program)

  255.   2. After the IBM OS2 C logo, the first panel of the installation program

  257.      Install pull down menu.

  260.      same as that shown in , but with the customize option you can change any 
  261.      of the fields.

  278.  
  279.       Choose which standard libraries to install:

  281.       Note:  You can select any combination of the options listed below, but at 
  282.       least one from each category must be selected.

  284.         a. The type(s) of run-time environments to be supported: Multi-tasking 
  285.  
  286.           - Single tasking 
  287.  
  288.           - Programs that contain no run-time environment The type(s) of 
  289.             programs for which support is required: Building EXEs 
  290.  
  291.           - Building DLLs The method of binding the IBM OS2 C. run-time library 
  292.             Dynamically 
  293.  
  294.           - Statically 
  295.  
  296.             Similarly, for the C/2 migration libraries you can specify: 
  297.  
  298.             Note:  You can select any combination of the C/2 Migration Library 
  299.             options below, but at least one from each category must be 
  300.             selected. 
  301.  
  302.            1. The type(s) of run-time environments to be supported: 
  303.               Multi-tasking 
  304.  
  305.              - Single tasking The type(s) of programs for which support is 
  306.                required: Building EXEs 
  307.  
  308.              - Building DLLs The method of binding the IBM OS2 C. runtime

  315.                The DLLs and import libraries are already built. This is done to 
  316.                give greater flexibility, to remove the need to a build command 
  317.                file and all associated module definition files, to eliminate 
  318.                the build step in the install procedure, and to remove the need 
  319.                for the link and import EXEC to be on the environment PATH 
  320.                during installation. 
  321.  
  322.            2. Documentation - you can decide to install any combination of the 
  323.               following documentation units: 
  324.  
  325.              - On-line reference documentation in IPF format. 
  326.  
  327.              - Soft copy of SAA C reference in BookManager format. 
  328.  
  329.              - Soft copy of this User's Guide in BookManager format. 
  330.  
  331.            3. locale utilities and data - you have the option of not installing 
  332.               these 
  333.  
  334.            4. Sample programs - you have the option of not installing these 
  335.  
  336.            5. Update the CONFIG.SYS file. The options are: 
  337.  
  338.               a. No, the CONFIG.SYS file is not changed.  You should append C 
  339.                  to the LIBPATH variable in the CONFIG.SYS file manually. 
  340.  
  341.                  A corresponding EDCPATH command file is created, and you need 
  342.                  to run this command file in each OS/2 session before using the 
  343.                  compiler. 
  344.  
  345.                  This file performs the additional SET commands needed to drive 
  346.                  the IBM OS2 C environment is placed in the \BIN directory. 
  347.                  This command file contains the following statments: 
  348.  
  349.                                          SET PATH=C      /* TBD from BookManager Read */
  350.                                          SET TZ=ESTSEDT,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0
  351.                                          SET DEFAULT_LOCALE=C
  352.  
  353.               b. Yes, but only change the LIBPATH, DPATH and PATH variables. 
  354.                  The following changes will be made to the CONFIG.SYS file: 
  355.  
  356.                                          append C
  357.  
  358.                                   A corresponding EDCPATH
  359.                                   command file that performs the additional SET commands
  360.                                   needed to drive the IBM OS2 C environment will be created and placed in
  361.                                   the \BIN directory.  This command file will include
  362.                                   the following statements:

  364.                                          SET LIB=CDEFAULT_LOCALE=C
  365.  
  366.               c. Yes, put everything in the CONFIG.SYS file. The following 
  367.                  changes will be made to the CONFIG.SYS file:

  369.                                          append CP the TMP variable
  370.                                          append C
  371.  
  372.                                   A corresponding EDCPATH
  373.                                   command file that performs
  374.                                   the additional SET commands
  375.                                   needed to drive the IBM OS2 C environment will be created and placed in
  376.                                   the \BIN directory.
  377.                                   This command file contains the following statements:

  379.                                          SET TZ=ESTSEDT,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0
  380.                                          SET DEFAULT_LOCALE=C
  381.  
  382.                  Warning: There is no semicolon at the end of the line for the 
  383.                  TMP environment variable.  If you write or edit any of these 
  384.                  files yourself, do not add one. 
  385.  
  386.            6. After you have chosen your options, the space required for 
  387.               installation is calculated and compared to the available space on 
  388.               the drive you want to use. If there is not enough space, you will 
  389.               get a warning message. At this point you can go ahead with the 
  390.               installation or return to the dialog panel and change the 
  391.               installation options. 
  392.  
  393.            7. If the directory to be created already exists, a warning message 
  394.               will tell you that duplicate files in the directory will be 
  395.               overwritten by the installation files. At this point you can go 
  396.               ahead with the installation and overwrite these files or return 
  397.               to the dialog panel and change the installation options. 
  398.  
  399.            8. When the installation is complete, you will get a message 
  400.               indicating that the installation was successful. Click on the OK 
  401.               action button to return to the first panel of the installation 
  402.               program. 
  403.  
  404.            9. Choose the Exit option from the install pull down menu to finish 
  405.               the installation procedure.

  414. the compiler or adds new compiler features.  The installed directory and its
