  2.            Log of BUGS and problems with the Universal VESA VBE

  5. This file documents known problems with the Universal VESA VBE. I have done
  6. my best to try to fix all know problems, but some still persist and may
  7. well be limitations in the particular video controller hardware and
  8. may not be fixable.

  10. Trident 8900 chipsets:
  11.  
  12.     - The Trident 8900 chipset does not seem to be able to page flip
  13.       the 1024x768 16 color video mode, even though it works for all
  14.       other video modes. Probably a bug in the chipset.

  16. Cirrus CL-GD542x chipsets:
  17.  
  18.     - The Cirrus 5422 chipsets will not allow access to > 256k of
  19.       memory in 320x200x256 color standard VGA mode. There must be
  20.       some way of enabling this, but I have not worked it out.

  22. S3 86c911:
  23.  
  24.     - The S3 86c911 has some severe bugs in the extended CRT addressing
  25.       code in 1024x768 16 color modes. Page flipping works but looks
  26.       disgusting (bottom 1/8th of the screen is trashed). This bug is
  27.       fixed in the 924 and later chipsets.

  29. Video7 chipsets:

  31.     - The video7 chipsets do not work presently. I am getting a Video7
  32.       board to test so should be able to fix the problems for a later
  33.       release.

  35. ATI Technologies chipsets:

  37.     - The newer ATI boards seem to have problems with the page flipping
  38.       functions. I am working on this but I need to find some test ATI
  39.       boards to work with.

  41. QEMM memory manager:
  42.  
  43.     - QEMM does some wierd things with the video BIOS, so you may encounter
  44.       problems when using the Universal VESA VBE with QEMM installed.
  45.       You will need to use the exclude option to get it to work at all
  46.       (see the readme file).
