- This is the Readme file for first time users of One-Step High Quality FAX,
- (HQ-FAX), Copyright (c) 1993 by HTF Consulting. This file contains infor-
- mation about installing HQ-FAX, first time use, registration, product
- support, general information about the shareware distribution method, and
- information required by the ASP, (Association of Shareware Professionals).
-
-
- DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
- =======================
- Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying.
- If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to
- register. Individual programs differ on details, some request registration
- while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
- registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using the
- software to an updated program with printed manual.
-
- Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the
- copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as
- stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like
- commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality.
- (In both cases, there are good programs and bad ones)! The main difference
- is in the method of distribution. The author specifically grants the right
- to copy and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
- specific group. For example, some authors require written permission
- before a commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.
-
- Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should
- find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's commer-
- cial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier,
- because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead is low,
- prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee --
- if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.
-
-
- DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
- ======================
- Users of HQ-FAX must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
- "HQ-FAX is supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties, expressed
- or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of merchant-
- ability and of fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no liability for
- damages, direct or consequential, which may result from the use of HQ-FAX."
-
- HQ-FAX is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the user
- for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but please do
- not give HQ-FAX away altered or as part of another system. The essence of
- "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer users with
- quality software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for
- programmers to continue to develop new products.
-

- may begin offering HQ-FAX immediately. However HTF Consulting must still be
- advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest
- version of HQ-FAX).

- INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
- ======================
- As you are reading this Readme file, it is assumed that you have trans-
- ferred the complete umcompressed HQ-FAX package to a diskette. If not,
- please do so right away. The installation of HQ-FAX is very simple, but
- it assumes that it will install itself from diskette.
-
- 1) Mount the installation diskette into drive A: or B:
-
- 2) Enter A: or B: Make sure that the DOS prompt changes from
- C:> to A:>, or from C:> to B:>. This is very important!
-
- 3) Enter "Install". If you wish the package to install itself on any
- path in the Install command.
- Example (1): "Install D:\Hqfax",
- Example (2): "Install C:\Doc2fax"
-
- Now you can watch HQ-FAX install itself. It will only take a
- minute. This install procedure will NOT update your Autoexec.bat
- file. It will place it's own customized "Hqfax.bat" file in áthe
- root directory, drive C:, so that it will change to the C:\HQ-FAX
- directory (or the directory that you specified) before executing
- the HQ-FAX procedure.
-
- Attention! The first time that you run HQ-FAX, you will need to
- fill in the field which specifies the FAX file format that you wish
- to use. This format must be compatible with your FAX modem product
-
- That's it. You're ready to go. Start by entering "HQFAX" at the DOS
- prompt.
