  1. This is the readme file for a set of communications programs and
  2. related files.

  4. This software is Copyright (C) 1992, 1993 Peter Edward Cann, all
  5. rights reserved, except for EMU.H which is in the public domain, and
  6. anything else labelled by the author as being in the public domain,
  7. and also the fax font CMTT12.FXF, which I believe to be in the public
  8. domain. Items that are in the public domain, and only such items, may
  9. be copied, distributed, sold, etc. indiscriminately, but not with
  10. actionable false attribution of authorship.

  12. You may use the software privately; if you use it at all frequently
  13. please send a payment of $5 per processor to the author. You may
  14. modify it and use the modified version under the same terms. If you
  15. distribute a modified version and request or require an additional
  16. payment, you must take personal responsibility for seeing that the
  17. author receives the $5 payment per processor for any installations
  18. for which you receive payment.

  20. Business users shall not operate more than two test processor
  21. installations per site, which shall not be operated beyond one 30-day
  22. consecutive period, without paying the payment for each processor.

  24. If you get an enormous benefit out of studying the code without
  25. particularly stealing it much, and make huge money as a result, I
  26. would obviously appreciate a little green present, if it's not too
  27. much trouble. I don't mean to make any legal implications in this
  28. paragraph one way or the other.

  30. Duplication and distribution is expressly prohibited unless copyright
  31. notices are preserved and this readme file is included. Enhancers may
  32. add their own material to this readme file after the author's
  33. address, below. Duplication and distribution not in conflict with the
  34. above is hereby authorized. Enhancers may modify the copyright notice
  35. to indicate that it applies only to the original portion.

  37. Any deliberate use of fragments of the provided voice prompt files,
  38. except live when resulting from a user aborting playback, is strictly
  39. prohibited. They may only be used in their entirety, and may not be
  40. edited.

  43. situation in which it could have any life-safety impact, including
  44. but not limited to life-support or emergency services applications,
  45. unless a qualified person signs off on every single binary bit of the
  46. product, including but not limited to all strategies, algorithms and
  47. assumptions, and assumes complete responsibility in a legally
  48. effective manner. The software shall also not be used in situations
  49. presenting a risk of personal injury or property damage except as
  50. provided above.

  52. Any statements elsewhere in this package regarding behavior or
  53. properties of the software, or of any other information or objects
  54. with which the software may be involved, are provided only to assist
  55. the user in determining, experimentally and by examination of the
  56. code, how it really works, and shall under no circumstances be
  57. regarded as commitments.

  59. The author hereby expressly denies and revokes any and all express or
  60. implied claims of quality, reliability or any and all other
  61. properties of this product, same consisting of source code, data,
  62. documentation and anything else that comes with it, such properties
  63. including but not limited to merchantability or fitness for a
  64. particular use.  Use of the product is at the user's sole risk in all
  65. respects.  Payment of the requested amount shall imply final
  66. acceptance of the product "as is". The author does not agree to or
  67. imply that he will take any action whatsoever under any circumstances
  68. whatsoever, with the possible exception of copyright enforcement.

  70. If and only if receipt of the specified payment would impose a legal
  71. status on the author that definitely could be harmful to his
  72. interests in the event of any problem with this package, and if this
  73. is the case in spite of the provisions of this file, the payment
  74. for simple use is hereby waived, and any payment sent to the author
  75. under such circumstances shall be considered to be a gift unrelated
  76. to the package. In the above-mentioned situation with regard to
  77. resale on any basis, such resale is prohibited.
