- Here are a few commonly asked questions and their answers.

- 1) Q. Why is it that the first time I get into CILINK my mouse doesn't
- work? It seems to work OK after I go into SETUP and configure
- my COM port.
-
- A. The most likely problem is that your mouse is setup on COM1.
- The default CILINK.DAT file is setup to have the modem on COM1
- so CILINK is looking for modem commands from that port rather
- mouse commands. If you go into SETUP and setup CILINK to use
- COM2 or whatever port your modem is on, then the mouse should
- work properly. (Remember to save your configuration settings)
- You may also re-install using the correct COM port for your
- modem.
-
-
- 2) Q. When I use another communications program before using CILINK,
- my modem acts strangely.
-
- A. Try resetting your modem by typing "ATZ" in the terminal window.
- You may want to put this initialization command in your modem
- initialization string in SETUP.
-
-
-
- 3) Q. When I dial a bulletin board, characters are sent to the board
- which I have not typed in.
-
- A. You are probably executing a script without knowing it.
- The sample phonelist CILINK.PHO has scripts attatched to some
- of the numbers in the list. You can tell if a script is attached
- to a phone number by pressing Alt-D from the terminal window
- and looking at the far right-hand edge of the DialList. If you
- see a script filename there you may remove it by pressing F9 to
- modify an entry and then space over the entry for Autologon Script.
-
-
- 4) Q. I cant figure out how to automatically redial a busy phone number
- every few minutes.
-
- A. When you dial a number and get a busy signal, you will be asked
- if you want to automatically redial the number every-so-often.
- Supply the number of seconds to wait between redials and you are
- off to the redial races. CILINK will alert you when it makes a
- connection (unless you have specified /NoAlert as a startup option)
-
- You may have set ATQ1 or ATX0 to turn off modem responses. CILINK
- uses the modem responses to determine if the dialed number is busy.
- Type ATZ from the terminal window to initialize your modem and try
- it again.
-
-
- 5) Q. Do I have to get out of Cedar Island Link to edit a script?
-
- A. No. Just press F7 from within the DialList to edit a script.
-
-
- 6) Q. I can't seem to make CILINK work on COM3. What did I do wrong?
-
- A. You probably didn't do any thing wrong at all. CILINK sometimes
- has difficulty detecting COM3 and COM4. If you are having this
- problem, try starting CILINK like this: "CILINK /COM3". After
- Cedar Island Link starts up, you can save the COM port in SETUP.
- Thereafter you shouldnt have to use CILINK /COM3 to start CILINK.
- Another problem might be that you are using a PS2 or a clone which
- reports that it is a PS2. PS2's use different IRQ's and addresses
- for COM3 and COM4 than other PC's. Try CILINK /PS2 and see
- if that fixes the problem.
-
- 7) Q. I have a laptop with an LCD display. Is there a way to change the
- default colors in CILINK so that I can have higher contrast?
-
- A. CILINK does not have a way to modify colors but, since CILINK
- supports monochrome displays by using a different set of default
- colors and attributes, you can achieve what you want easily.
- Just type MODE BW80 at the DOS prompt before you start CILINK.
- This will place your laptop in a black and white mode which
- will be seen and used by CILINK and CIEDIT. To change back to
- color mode you can enter MODE CO80 at the DOS prompt.
-
- Also try CILINK /MONO to force CILINK to use the mono colorset.
-
-
- 8) Q. How do I remove the blue information bar from the top of the
- screen? I would like to be able to view ANSI graphics without
- having the information bar visible.
-
- A. Just switch to Doorway mode by pressing ALT=. This will remove
- the information bar from the top of the screen and also place
- Cedar Island Link into 25 line display mode so that you can view
- more lines on the screen. To get back to normal display size
- press Alt= again.
-
-
- 9) Q. I am having problems with CompuServ B+ protocol. What do I do
- to get things working properly?
-
- A. Be sure to logon to CompuServ with 8 databits and Ignore parity.
-
-
- 10) Q. I am running CILINK under Windows 3.1 and can't make things work
- on COM4. I have a mouse in COM1, nothing attatched to COM2 and
- COM3 is not installed in my machine. CILINK works fine under
- DOS but wont work under windows on COM4.
-
- A. This is a known bug in Windows 3.1. Try adding COM3IRQ=-1 to
- your SYSTEM.INI under the [386ENH] section to inform Windows
- that COM3 is not physically installed in your machine.
-
-
- 10) Q. Can I use the Windows graphic mouse cursor to "step on" CILINK's
- buttons while running in a DOS window?
-
- A. Yes, provided that you are running Windows 3.1 and that you have
- installed the MicroSoft 8.2 or later mouse driver before you
- loaded windows. The MicroSoft 8.2 mouse driver is on the Windows 3.1
- distribution disk #4 in compressed format.
- Try these commands to decompress the file:
- cd \windows
- expand a:mouse.co_ mouse.com
