- "Letter To Don Mankin, Author of MegaHost BBS"
-
- October 25, 1992
- To: Don Mankin
- Fr: Jim Spheekas
-
- It has become quite obvious that many BBS operators are
- still confused as to the features of MegaHost and it's many
- configurable options. I think that the geographical location
- of the "sole" support BBS, has alot to do with this. It is
- understandable Don, that as the author of Minihost, MaxiHost,
- and Megahost (hereafter=MH) you wanted to be the direct source of
- information and technical support from your California based
- BBS. This made alot of sense until you modified Megahost to
- be compatible with a Front End Mailer, i.e FrontDoor or
- Binkley. As I'm sure you know, the installation and support
- of a front end mailer opens up a whole new world of
- communication capabilities. Sending messages across the
- Nation as well as the World for as little as a local phone
- call to an uplink.

-
- "letter to future Support & Node BBS's"
-
- The integrity and reliability of a future MH support
- operator is a major concern; Will the operator be dedicated
- enough to represent your BBS software in a positive manner as
- not to harm or degrade it's reputation as BBS software; Is he/she
- knowledgeable enough about the many options and configurations of
- Megahost; Is he/she willing to carry all the new versions of the
- software and any pertinent third party packages relevant to MH.
-
- * A Support BBS operator must make the commitment to
- review/support any questions presented to him/her and agree to pass
- along those questions to the Host Node (1: 208/407 Don Mankin) via
- Nodes or directly. TheSupport BBS must have a working and active front
- end mailer attached to his BBS. Questions that cannot be answered by
- the authorized support BBS may copy those question(s) over to
- Net-Mail and "Crash" the Host for immediate delivery.
-
- * A Node is just a vehicle that agrees to carry the
- proposed "MegaHost Echo" and allow general user access for the purpose
- of communicating with the Author or any other Support BBS across the
- world. A network of Nodes strategically placed across the nation would
- allow for the delivery of new "Megahost" echomail to be delivered at a
- lesser rate due to the fact a BBS operator does not have to call
- California from the East Coast or Europe. Each successive node would
- pass along the new message(s) Node-Node-Node until all node have been
- "echoed" the message(s).

-
-
- This is the MEGAHOST Echo.
-
- The MEGAHOST ECHO is dedicated primarily for the participation of
- anyone who has an interest with Megahost,Maxihost & Minihost hereafter
- to be identified as MH, A BBS software program Authored by Donald
- Mankin 1:208/407. It is also open to anyone involved with issues
- pertaining to the support of these programs. We also consider ideas using MH
- and discuss softwre use and the various schemes and programs that can be used
- with MH.Currently, no echo exists in FIDO-NET or any other NetWork
- that encourages the support of MH pertaining to the startup and
- existing systems. Encourages is the keyword here. This is the first
- echo that's dedicated to actually provide a receptive and non-hostile
- atmosphere for the exchange of information. The network is designed to
- be able to distribute pertinent mail at any of the following levels:
-
-
- 1.Within the Support BBS Hosts
- 2.Within the Nodes fed by Hosts
- 3.Within a Branch, Sector or Region that is near any of
- the above levels.
-
-
- The participants are prepared to Distribute other "Conferences" as
- they "hatch" that a node on distribution would like to obtain.
-

- and help promote the development and use of MH BBS systems.
