  1.        GENERIC MODEM (AND OTHER) INFORMATION

  4.           When a modem is set for VARIABLE serial port rates, the
  5.        modem will shift its rate to match the connecting modem's
  6.        rate.  The communication software, in this case MegaHost,
  7.        must also match this connect rate.  MegaHost does this when
  8.        LOCKBAUD=N in the MEGAHOST.CNF file.  The BAUD= entry should
  9.        be set to the highest connect rate, currently 19200 for
  10.        14400 bps modems.

  12.           If a modem is set for FIXED serial port rates, the modem
  13.        does not drop down to match the lower connection rate.  This
  14.        allows you to lock in at a higher rate for more efficient
  15.        communications.  If the modems connect using data
  16.        compression, you can more then triple your throughput.  This
  17.        is handled in MegaHost by setting LOCKBAUD=Y in your
  18.        MEGAHOST.CNF file, and setting the BAUD= entry to the
  19.        highest baud rate your PC will handle.  Most PC's will
  20.        handle 38400, and some 57600.  (Use 38400 if you have ANY
  21.        problems with your connections.)  NOTE: When a user calls
  22.        MegaHost and LOCKBAUD=Y, pressing the "S" key to stop
  23.        displaying text screens appears to have no effect.  This is
  24.        because the data has already been buffered in the modem and
  25.        MegaHost has lost control.

  28.        MegaHost works well with the following settings:

  31.             Disable Software Flow Control
  32.             Enable Hardware Flow Control - CTS, RTS
  33.             Force on DSR
  34.             Enable Display Result Codes
  35.             Disable displaying Extended Result Codes  (ARQ)
  36.             Locked or fixed serial port rate  (LOCKBAUD=Y)
  37.             CD not forced on  (normal)
  38.             DTR not forced on  (normal)
  39.             Enable Data Compression
  40.             Enable Error Control
  41.             Variable Data Rate, Phone Line Interface  (normal)

  44.        Sometimes the hardware MegaHost is running on requires
  45.        MODEMDELAY=  increased.
