- GENERIC MODEM (AND OTHER) INFORMATION
- -------------------------------------
-
- When a modem is set for VARIABLE serial port rates, the
- modem will shift its rate to match the connecting modem's
- rate. The communication software, in this case MegaHost,
- must also match this connect rate. MegaHost does this when
- LOCKBAUD=N in the MEGAHOST.CNF file. The BAUD= entry should
- be set to the highest connect rate, currently 19200 for
- 14400 bps modems.
-
- If a modem is set for FIXED serial port rates, the modem
- does not drop down to match the lower connection rate. This
- allows you to lock in at a higher rate for more efficient
- communications. If the modems connect using data
- compression, you can more then triple your throughput. This
- is handled in MegaHost by setting LOCKBAUD=Y in your
- MEGAHOST.CNF file, and setting the BAUD= entry to the
- highest baud rate your PC will handle. Most PC's will
- handle 38400, and some 57600. (Use 38400 if you have ANY
- problems with your connections.) NOTE: When a user calls
- MegaHost and LOCKBAUD=Y, pressing the "S" key to stop
- displaying text screens appears to have no effect. This is
- because the data has already been buffered in the modem and
- MegaHost has lost control.
-
-
- MegaHost works well with the following settings:
-
- Enable CCITT answer sequence
- Disable Software Flow Control
- Enable Hardware Flow Control - CTS, RTS
- Force on DSR
- Enable Display Result Codes
- Disable displaying Extended Result Codes (ARQ)
- Locked or fixed serial port rate (LOCKBAUD=Y)
- CD not forced on (normal)
- DTR not forced on (normal)
- Enable Data Compression
- Enable Error Control
- Variable Data Rate, Phone Line Interface (normal)
-
-
- Sometimes the hardware MegaHost is running on requires
- MODEMDELAY= increased.
