- NavCIS SE for Windows and NavCIS SE for DOS
-
- Version : 1.1
- Release Date: Oct. 22, 1993
-
- 1. Windows users! How to install the NavCIS icon into a Group:
- A new utility is included with this version of NavCIS SE for
- Windows, WINST.EXE. This handy utility lets you install the NavCIS
- SE icon into the program Group of your choice. It is specifically
- designed to support Program Manager's .GRP files. To use it, go to
- Program Manager and select File, Run from the menu. Press the Browse
- button, then select the directory into which you extracted the
- self extracting EXE file (usually \NAVCIS). Next select WINST.EXE,
- then press OK. You may need to press OK twice. A Window will appear
- titled, NavCIS SE Installation. Select the group that you want to
- add the NavCIS icon to by pressing on the down-arrow on the window.
- Click on the Group name, then press OK. After a short wait, the NavCIS
- icon will be added to the Group specified.
-
- If you are using a Windows shell such as Norton Desktop for Windows,
- be sure to read point #6 below.
-
- 2. FILES=
- A common problem we've encountered among users of NavCIS is they
- do not have their FILES= in the CONFIG.SYS file set high enough.
- Because NavCIS uses indexed database structures, it requires plenty
- of file handles. Be sure to set your FILES= to at least 40 if using
- the DOS version, or 50 if using the Windows version.
-
- 3. Enhanced Online Data Integrity:
- If you have experienced "data loss" while downloading information
- from CompuServe, goto Configuration, Options, and set the check
- box. This will cause Windows to "protect" the comm port during I/O
- to the disk or video. Online speed will slow down between 3% and
- 5% when this option is on.
-
- 4. Font Viewing
- We have added the ability for NavCIS SE to view fonted messages. Users
- of SE cannot create fonted messages (NavCIS Pro does that), but now you
- can view messages bearing fonts.
-
- 5. Reset CIS parameters:
- If you have Mail that won't "go", that is, NavCIS can't send it, you
- should run "Reset CIS Parameters" choice from the Online menu on the
- main screen. Resetting the parameters will also change a few other
- primitive CIS parameters; these will be changed to make your CIS
- configuration more compatible with NavCIS Pro. If you would like to
- see what will be changed BEFORE you run Reset CIS Parameters, you can
- view the changes by viewing the ASCII file, RESET.SCR.
-
- 6. Verify your Working Directory:
- NavCIS requires that you set your working directory. If you used
- WINST.EXE to install the NavCIS icon into a Group, then you
- shouldn't have to worry about it. However, if you manually
- installed NavCIS into Windows or your particular Windows environment
- (such as NDW, PC Tools, WinTools or something else), you'll need
- to ensure that the working directory (also known as the default
- directory) is set to the main NavCIS directory. For instance,
- if you created a directory called D:\NAVCISSE, then you must be
- sure your working directory is D:\NAVCISSE. Use Program Manager's
- File, Properties command to verify this.

- NAVCIS DOCUMENTATION:
- The file NAVCIS.DOC (for DOS) or WNAVCIS.DOC (for Windows) provides
- lots of information about using NavCIS SE. These files are suitable
- for printing. Also, you can download an illustrated and indexed
- professional manual suitable for printing called SE-MAN.EXE.
- SE-MAN.EXE is a self-extracting EXE file. The actual file is a
- Word-For-Windows 2.0 file and REQUIRES Word-For-Windows to print it.
- This manual is supplemental and not required in order to use NavCIS SE.
- SE-MAN.EXE can be found in Lib 11.
-
- We hope you enjoy NavCIS SE 1.1 for Windows or DOS!
