-
- CISHELP is a TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) help utility for IBM PC's and
- compatibles to be used when you are running a communications program and need
- help with CompuServe's basic commands or the new FORUM software. It will work
- with most communications software and some other TSR programs. CISHELP will
- not work, however, with SMARTCOM II. Also, with some programs the cursor may
- not be positioned correctly upon exit from CISHELP until you enter a command or
- press a key.
-
- To install CISHELP:
-
- 1. Copy the following files to a convenient directory or floppy:
-
- CISHELP.COM
- NOHELP.COM
- NEWKEY.COM
- CIS.HLP
-
- 2. In the directory containing the above files, install CISHELP in
- memory by typing CISHELP or CISHELP M (if you have a monochrome
- monitor attached to a color graphics adapter.
-
- 3. Activate CISHELP at any time with Alt-F1
-
- Note: If you are using a floppy only system, the file
- CIS.HLP must always be available on the drive
- from which you installed CISHELP.
-
- On a hard disk, you need to install CISHELP in
- memory from the directory containing CIS.HLP but
- it can then be activated from any directory.
-
- 4. NOHELP removes CISHELP from memory (if safe to do so). NEWKEY
- allows you to change the activation key from ALT-F1 to another key
- of your choice.

- HOW CISHELP WORKS
-
- The CISHELP system is a memory resident program which works in concert with
- your communications package. When using CompuServe, there is no need to
- download lengthy help instructions or keep "cheat sheets" on paper... CISHELP
- is at your fingertips.
-
-
- CISHELP includes four elements:
-
- CISHELP.COM displays HELP information.
- NOHELP.COM removes HELP from memory.
- NEWKEY.COM changes your "hot key".
- CIS.HLP contains all the data and screens used by CIS HELP.
-
-
- CISHELP.COM
-
- To activate CISHELP, go to the subdirectory or disk where you keep
- CIS HELP and type:
-
- CISHELP
-
- and press carriage return. CISHELP will tell you it's installed.
- If you have a monochrome display connected to a color adapter, type
- CISHELP M.
-
-
- You will also be informed of the activation key ("hot key") you need
- to press to bring up the CISHELP menu. When you first install
- CISHELP, that key will be...
-
- ALT-F1
-
- Press ALT-F1 and the HELP window will appear in the upper right
- screen corner.
-
- When the menu appears, you have the following choices:
-
- (1) Use the up and down arrow keys to select a HELP topic.
-
- (2) Press <CR> to get help information.
-
- (3) Press ESCape to remove the HELP window.
-
- After you select a topic and press <CR>, a larger window of help
- text will appear. Depending on the topic, quite a number of screens
- may be available.
-
- Use PgDn to proceed through the screens or press PgUp to move
- backwards.
-
- When finished, pressing the space bar or <CR> will take you back to
-

- the menu.
-
- There is also a shortcut back to your communications program. If
- you don't need to see the HELP menu again, press
-
- ESCape
-
- You will then be returned directly to your CompuServe session (or
- other program).
-
- When you need help again, the activation key (ALT-F1 now) will
- invoke the HELP menu whenever you want it.
-
-
- NEWKEY
-
- You may wish to change ALT-F1 to another key combination, perhaps to
- go to a single keystroke or to avoid conflict with other software
- that would also like to use these keys. NEWKEY provides this
- capability.
-
- Run NEWKEY from the DOS prompt when you want a new activation key.
- NEWKEY will bring up a window, tell you which activation key is on
- file, and ask you to press an alternate. All function keys and many
- Control and ALT combinations are OK.
-
- When have selected a key you like, press <CR> and that key will be
- remembered. If you decide you like your original key, pressing
- ESCape will remove the window and leave the prior key still in
- effect.
-
- NOTE: CISHELP will not recognize the new key until you
- re-run CISHELP from DOS. If CISHELP is active,
- you must run NOHELP.
-
-
- NOHELP
-
- NOHELP removes CISHELP from memory, giving you back about 33K. If
- you don't need CISHELP, then NOHELP will return memory back for your
- spreadsheet or other application. Whenever you run NOHELP, you will
- need to run CISHELP again from DOS to get the CISHELP window back.
-
-
- If you use other resident programs, NOHELP will only de-activate
- CISHELP if HELP was the last (most recent) TSR you had installed.
- If you remove the other(s) first, NOHELP will then return it's
- memory to you. Otherwise, it will not take the chance of
- de-activating another resident program.

- CIS.HLP
-
- All CISHELP system modules use a file called CIS.HLP to communicate
- with each other. This file contains all the CIS HELP information,
- data, and screens. If the file is not present in your CISHELP
- subdirectory, CISHELP will not be able to operate.
-
- From time to time, CompuServe may distribute updated versions of
- CIS.HLP reflecting additions to or changes in CompuServe commands.
-
-
- The CISHELP system may be redistributed only on a noncommercial basis--no fee
- of any kind may be charged.
