  4. Introduction

  7. SkyMap is a planetarium simulator for Microsoft Windows 3.1.  It will draw
  8. maps of the sky as seen from any place on Earth for any date between 4000BC
  9. and 8000AD.
  10.  
  11. Unlike some other programs of its kind, SkyMap makes no claims to be
  12. blindingly fast; the objective when writing it was to achieve high precision,
  13. rather than high speed.  Planetary position, for example, will generally
  14. agree with those in the "Astronomical Almanac" to within 0.5 seconds of arc.

  16. The star database supplied with this version of SkyMap contains 15,931 stars
  17. down to magnitude 7; registered users will receive a much larger version of
  18. the database.

  21. Installation
  22. ------------

  24. To install SkyMap, simply copy all the files in this archive into a directory
  25. on your hard disk, then run the program SKYMAP.EXE.

  34. SkyMap is ShareWare.  You may evaluate it for a period of 30 days.  After
  35. this time, please either pay the modest registration fee, or delete it from
  36. your computer.  Full details of registration are contained in the manual.

  42. This is the first public release of SkyMap, and is being release primarily
  43. for comment, and suggestions as to how it could be improved.  I would
  44. welcome any comments, either positive or negative.
