  6. This is a periodic posting on how to get information about the
  7. National Science Foundation (NSF) Internet.
  8.  
  9. The NSFNET Network Service Center (NNSC) makes current documentation
  10. on the NSFNET available via a mail server and by anonymous ftp.
  11.  
  12. Because the contents of the documents are constantly being updated,
  13. this posting only describes how to obtain a current copy rather than
  14. providing the data directly.
  15.  
  16. 1) Using anonymous FTP:
  17.    host:             SH.CS.NET
  18.    username:         anonymous
  19.    password:         guest
  20.    directory:        nsfnet        (i.e. type:  cd nsfnet )
  21.  
  22. The files "help-ftp", "help.1" and "nsfnet-help" will provide you with
  23. information to get started.
  24.  
  25. 2) Using the mail server: Send mail to the address shown below (either
  26.    nnsc.nsf.net or sh.cs.net) and leave the "Subject;" line blank.
  27.    The first line of the message body should contain a "Request:"
  28.    line, followed by a "Topic:" line, as described below.  You do not
  29.    need a "Subject:" line, but be sure your mailer puts out a valid
  30.    "From:" line that the server can respond to!

  32. To obtain general information on the CSNET INFO SERVER send the
  33. following message to the mail-server "info-server@nnsc.nsf.net" or
  34. "info-server@sh.cs.net":

  39. To obtain current contact information on the NSFNET and its affiliated
  40. regional networks, send the following mail message to the mail-server:

  46. To obtain information on how to connect to the Internet through the
  47. NSFNET or an NSF-affiliated network, send the following mail message
  48. to the mail-server "info-server@nnsc.nsf.net":

  53. To obtain information on the documents currently available on the
  54. NSFNET from the info-server, send the following mail message to the
  55. mail server "info-server@nnsc.nsf.net":

  61. If you need to contact the people at the NNSC directly, you can either
  62. send mail or call them.  It would be a good idea to read the NSFNET
  63. documents first though.
