- Other User-Supported/Freeware Offerings:
-
- The user-supported/freeware scheme is described in CHASM's
- documentation in the section titled "Miscellaneous and a Word
- From Our Sponsor...". If you like this rather novel way of
- marketing, you might be interested in other programs offered
- under the same deal. I have experience with two other such
- programs at this time, and can recommend both of them highly.
-
- PC-TALK is an asynchronous communciations package, allowing you
- to use a modem to talk to other computers. To receive a copy,
- send a disk and stamped return mailer to:
-
- Andrew Fluegelman
- P.O. Box 862
- Tiburon, CA 94920
-
- Note: Andrew is the originator of the whole Freeware idea, and in
- fact, the name "Freeware (tm)" is a trademark of his company, The
- Headlands Press.
-
- PC-FILE is a general purpose database manager program. I use it
- to maintain records of your donations, and to generate mailing
- labels when announcing significant upgrades to my contributors.
- To get a copy, send a double sided disk (or two single sided
- ones), along with a stamped return mailer to:
-
- Jim Button
- P.O. Box 5786
- Bellevue, WA 98006
-
- Jim coined the phrase "user-supported" which means "Freeware"
- without violating AF's trademark. To the best of my knowlege,
- Jim intends "user-supported" to be a generic term for free use
- by everyone using the Freeware-style distribution scheme. In
- magazines and on bulletin boards you may see "user-supported"
- abreviated to U/S.
-
- In addition to these packages, I have heard of, but not tried the
- following U/S programs:
