  6.  Each  SoftwareVAULT Collection  contains thousands  of programs and
  7.  resources  of every  size and  variety. To  help you  find your way
  8.  through this  sea of software,  we have included  the SoftwareVAULT
  9.  Librarian program.
  10.  
  11.  The SoftwareVAULT Librarian is a program that:
  12.  
  13.  (1) Lets you  sort through the thousands of  programs and resources
  14.      the SoftwareVAULT collections.
  15.  
  16.  (2) Helps you find programs that interest you.
  17.  
  18.  (3) Helps  you to transfer  these files and  programs to your  hard
  19.      drive so that you can use them.
  20.  
  21.  Please note that to use  SoftwareVAULT files you MUST transfer them
  22.  to your hard drive!
  23.  
  24.  The files on the CD are  compressed and must  be "UNZIPPED" to your
  25.  hard  drive so  they can  be accessed.  (Don't worry, the Librarian
  26.  does this automatically  for you. We "ZIP" our files  up so that we
  27.  can include more software  on each SoftwareVAULT collection, giving
  28.  you more value for your dollar.)

  32.  ║           TUTORIAL: HOW TO USE THE FILES ON THIS DISC           ║

  35.  You can  use any of  the thousands of  programs and resources  on a
  36.  SoftwareVAULT Collection with just a few easy steps...
  37.  
  38.  Step 1:  Use one of the "GROUP" buttons to  narrow your search to a
  39.           specific  group of  areas, press  the button  that you are
  40.           most interested in  and you will be presented  with a list
  41.           of  "AREAS". These  "AREAS"  are  a special  collection of
  42.           files covering a specific  subject. Select the "AREA" that
  43.           interestes you  most and press the  "ENTER" key. This will
  44.           give  you a  long list  of files,  each followed  by a one
  45.           sentence description of what that file does. Once you find
  46.           one that looks interesting, you will have several options.
  47.  
  48.  Step 2:  a. Press "ENTER" to examine the contents of the "ZIP" file
  49.              of view the "GIF" file (picture).
  50.  
  51.           b. Press the "F6" function  key to view a long description
  52.              of the file. Not all files have  a long description, so
  53.              don't be surprised if it's the same as the one-sentence
  54.              description.
  55.  
  56.           c. Press the "F10" function key  to copy the file or unzip
  57.              the file  to your hard  drive. Unless you're  a veteran
  58.              SoftwareVAULT  user,  "examine  the  file contents" and
  59.              "copying  the   file  to  your  hard   disk"  might  be
  60.              confusing. THE OPTION YOU  ALMOST ALWAYS NEED TO SELECT
  61.              IS  "UNZIP TO  HARD  DRIVE".  Selecting "Unzip  to hard
  62.              drive" will decompress the file and will transfer it to
  63.              your computer.

  65.  Step 3:  Select the drive and name a directory in which to put your
  66.           file. Once  you've chosen to  unzip the file  to your hard
  67.           disk,  a  directory  selection  menu  will  appear on your
  68.           screen. Choose  the directory you  would like to  hold the
  69.           file. IT'S USUALLY  A GOOD IDEA TO CREATE  A NEW DIRECTORY
  70.           FOR A  ZIP FILE. Don't worry.  The SoftwareVAULT Librarian
  71.           can do this automatically. Simply  make up a new directory
  72.           name and type it in  the directory box. The Librarian will
  73.           ask you if you want to "create the directory", and when it
  74.           does, answer "Yes".

  76.  Step 4:  Use your file. Exit the Librarian and  go to the directory
  77.           you created to hold your file. You will discover that your
  78.           one ZIP  file has probably decompressed  into a collection
  79.           of smaller files. To start  the program, look for the file
  80.           with an ".EXE"  on the end of it's name.  This is the main
  81.           executable for  the program. Running  it should start  the
  82.           program! Executable files may also have a ".COM" extension
  83.           or a ".BAT" extension.

  89.  1) FILE

  91.      1.   a) Change CD-ROM
  92.  
  93.           Select   "Change  CD-ROM"   to  use   other  SoftwareVAULT
  94.           Collections. When  you select "Change  CD-ROM" be sure  to
  95.           place disc you would like to use in your CD-ROM drive.
  96.  
  97.           Note: In  order to change  to a specific  CD-ROM disc, you
  98.           must have  specified that you  would like to  install that
  99.           disc  during the  installation procedure.  Also, make sure
  100.           that the correct data path  and drive have been specified.
  101.           If you  are running directly from  the CD-ROM, this option
  102.           will be disabled.

  105.      1.   b) Exit
  106.  
  107.           Select "Exit" to exit the SoftwareVAULT Librarian.

  110.      1.   c) Export Files Listing
  111.  
  112.           Saves a partial  or complete list of the  files with their
  113.           one line descriptions to a variety of file formats. Select
  114.           the file format and the category listings you wish to have
  115.           saved.
  116.  
  117.      1.   d) Print Files Listing/Printer Setup
  118.  
  119.           Prints  a files  listing and  configures your  printer for
  120.           printing.  For the  appropriate configuration,  check your
  121.           system and your printer instructions.

  123.      1.   e) DOS Shell
  124.  
  125.           Allows you  to exit the Librarian  temporarily to use DOS.
  126.           Type "Exit" at the DOS prompt to return to the Librarian.

  129.  2) CONTENTS
  130.  
  131.      "Contents" allows you to explore SoftwareVAULT in two different
  132.      ways with either "Group Browser" or "Category Browser". It also
  133.      contains "Hottest Hits Info" and "Statistics".

  136.      2.   b) Group Browser
  137.  
  138.           Brings up  an array of  buttons. Each button  highlights a
  139.           certain topic  of software. Click  on a button  to explore
  140.           the  categories contained  in  that  group. Clicking  on a
  141.           specific category will bring up a complete list of all the
  142.           programs and resources contained in that category. See the
  143.           Tutorial section of this help file to see how to use these
  144.           programs.

  147.      2.   c) Browse-Copy Files
  148.  
  149.           If  you  don't  want  to  use  the  group buttons, you can
  150.           explore  the  entire  database.  Clicking  on  a  specific
  151.           category will bring up a complete list of all the programs
  152.           and resources contained in  the complete database. See the
  153.           Tutorial section of this help file to see how to use these
  154.           programs.

  156.      2.   d) Hottest Hits
  157.  
  158.           Each  SoftwareVAULT collection  contains an  assortment of
  159.           the  very best  shareware  programs  on the  market today.
  160.           "Hottest  Hits" Info  contains complete  reviews of  these
  161.           outstanding programs.

  163.      2.   e) Statistics
  164.  
  165.           "Statistics"  provides  a  statistical  breakdown  on  the
  166.           makeup of this SoftwareVAULT Collection.

  168.  3) SEARCH
  169.  
  170.      The SoftwareVAULT  Librarian allows you to  hunt for files that
  171.      interest you in two different ways:

  174.      3.   a) Find Filename
  175.  
  176.           Allows  you to  find files  based on  their title.  Type a
  177.           title into  the "Find a  File" box and  click on the  "OK"
  178.           button. The  Librarian will assemble  a list of  the files
  179.           with  titles similar  to the  one you  specified. See  the
  180.           Tutorial section of this help file to see how to use these
  181.           programs.

  184.      3.   b) Find Text
  185.  
  186.           Allows  you  to  run  a  keyword  search  to find files on
  187.           certain subjects. Type a keyword into the "Find Text" box.
  188.           The Librarian  will sort through  the descriptions of  all
  189.           the files  on the disc and  will assemble a list  of files
  190.           with subjects  related to your  keyword. See the  Tutorial
  191.           section  of  this  help  file  to  see  how  to  use these
  192.           programs.

  195.  4) TEXT
  196.  
  197.      The  text files  contain information  on how  the SoftwareVAULT
  198.      collections are  assembled and how  you can register  shareware
  199.      programs requiring registration.

  202.  5) ALL CD's
  203.  
  204.      Selecting "All CD's" allows you call  up a master file list for
  205.      other SoftwareVAULT  collections. You can either  view a master
  206.      list  for all  the SoftwareVAULT  collections or  you can  view
  207.      lists  for specific  collections.  The  viewer used  to examine
  208.      these files can  search the list for keywords  as well as print
  209.      them out.

  221.      The  Software  Librarian  allows  you  to  view GIFS (digitized
  222.      pictures found  in Category #16  of most collections)  directly
  223.      off the SoftwareVAULT disc. Select "Examine file contents" from
  224.      the "File Operations" box to view a GIF picture.
  225.  
  226.      Note: Loading  a GIF picture  for viewing takes  a few moments.
  227.      See the "Tutorial"  section of this help file  for more details
  228.      on using the File Operations box.

  234.      The SoftwareVAULT CD-ROM collections support a wide variety of
  235.      BBS formats.  These formats include:
  236.                                         PC Board
  237.                                         GAP
  238.                                         Spitfire
  239.                                         TBBS
  240.                                         Wildcat
  241.  
  242.      In addition to these specific formats, the SoftwareVAULT collections
  243.      also will support any BBS that requires a "FILES.BBS" file in each
  244.      directory.
