- Refreshing the screen display
- =============================
- Sometimes the Instant Calendar screen does not "refresh"
- properly, so the calendar window seems distorted. To correct
- the distortion, click the arrow button on the right side
- of the page icon on the status bar in the lower left corner
- of the calendar window.
-
-
-
- Displaying shading
- ==================
- You may experience problems displaying shading with high
- resolution video display drivers, such as Orchid Fahrenheit,
- although the shading does print correctly. If you wish to
- display the shading as it will print, use Windows Setup to
- switch to a VGA display.
-
-
-
- Saving event lists and workspaces
- =================================
- If you are creating a large event list or a complex
- workspace, you should save your work frequently. To have
- Instant Calendar save event list changes automatically,
- choose Edit | Preferences. Check the AutoSave Lists option
- and specify a time interval. Note that this only saves the
- event lists, not the workspace.
-
- To save the workspace, choose File | Workspace and then Save
- or Save As.
-
-
-
- Entering events
- ===============
- Event names
- -----------
- You must always enter an event name. Do not use spaces for an
- event name. If you want the "event" to be just a picture or
- special effect like Shade Day, with no text, use the insert
- field &rem as the first characters of the event name.
-
- Event times
- -----------
- When entering an event, you cannot specify a time period that
- spans midnight: for example, 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the next day.
- If necessary, enter two events with the same name: one ending
- at 11:59 p.m. and the other starting at 12:00 a.m. on the
- second day.
-
-
-
-
- Selecting multiple events
- =========================
- If you are using the event list window sorted by date, you
- may experience problems when attempting to select multiple
- events by using the mouse techniques Shift-Click, Click-Drag,
- or Control-Click. To select multiple events with the mouse, sort
- the event list by name.
-
-
-
- Layouts
- =======
-
- Number of events per day
- ------------------------
- A calendar can display up to 50 events per day. This mostly
- affects the text and year layouts, which can display more
- events than the others. If more than 50 events have been
- entered for one day, a year or text layout will display only
- the first 50.
-
- Circle Dates On Small Calendars
- -------------------------------
- If you have turned this option on in Layout Options |
- Appearance, the dates when events occur should be circled on
- the small previous- and next-month reference calendars. When
- you change an event date, the circled date on the small
- calendar does not automatically show the new date on the
- screen. It is correct in the printed calendar.
-
- To correct the screen display, click the arrow button on the
- left or right of the page icon on the status bar in the
- lower left corner of the screen or temporarily change the
- view or the layout.
-
- Events with &rem at the start of the event name will not
- appear in the calendar, but the days on which they occur will
- be circled in the small calendars.
-
-
-
- Small pages
- ===========
- All small calendars require small fonts and special margin
- settings to produce usable pages. Selecting a small paper
- stock from the list box in the Layout Options | Page Setup
- dialog box automatically sets the calendar form size and
- margins for you, but it does not change the font size.
- To achieve an acceptable result, you may have to choose
- Layout Options | Titles & Pictures to set the font size yourself.
-
- Sometimes it is hard to select text in small type in the
- calendar window. Instead, choose Layout | Layout Options
- | Titles & Pictures. Select the item you want from the
- Item drop-down list, then press the Font button.
-
-
-
- Printing
- ========
-
- HP DeskJet 1200 C
- ------------------
- You may experience difficulty displaying or printing graphics
- if you are using the Adobe PostScript driver (ver. 2.00a) with
- this printer. Switch to the printer's PCL5 emulation. Refer to
- the printer manual for instructions.
-
-
- Printing small calendars and shaded backgrounds
- -----------------------------------------------
- If you find that small calendars are printing in solid black,
- or that a shaded calendar background does not print properly,
- try choosing the Print In Black And White option in the
- Print dialog box before you print.
-
-
- Printing events with light background bitmap pictures
- -------------------------------------------------------------
- If your calendar layout has large overflow areas or
- dateboxes that cover more than a quarter of an 8.5 x 11 inch
- page, we do not recommend trying to print light background
- bitmap pictures. (Bitmap pictures are graphic files with
- the extensions .BMP, .PCX, .EPI, or .TIF.) For these layouts,
- modify the display of pictures for individual
- untimed events by choosing Don't Display, Small, or
- Scalable in the Modify Picture dialog box. You can also
- turn off the display of all pictures for the layout in
- the Layout Options | Event Display dialog box. See Chapter
- 7 in the Instant Calendar User's Guide for instructions.
-
-
- Printing pictures with a Canon BJC-600
- --------------------------------------
- If you are using the Canon BJC-600 printer, you may have
- difficulty printing calendars that contain a large number
- of pictures. Reduce the number of pictures by either hiding
- selected event or title pictures or by unchecking Show Pictures
- With Events in the Layout Options | Event Display dialog box.
-
-
-
- Extended characters in Preferences pathnames
- ============================================
- Don't enter extended characters, such as characters with
- accents, in the Pictures and Event Lists default path fields
- in the Preferences dialog box. If your pathname includes
- letters that are normally accented, Instant Calendar
- will probably find the path if you enter the letters without
- accents.
-
-
-
- Upgrading to Calendar Creator Plus 2.0
- ======================================
- If you upgrade from Instant Calendar to Calendar Creator
- Plus 2.0, you may find that the Instant Calendar icon
- remains in the Power Up group after installation. You should
- delete the icon and use the Calendar Creator Plus icon in the
- Power Up group.
-
-
-
- MoreFonts users
- ===============
- If you are running Windows 3.1, you need the version of
- MoreFonts designed for Windows 3.1, or you will experience
- various problems, such as Help not working. MoreFonts fonts
- may not appear in color on non-PostScript color printers.
-
- If MoreFonts fonts do not appear properly on the screen or
- printed calendar, or do not change size properly, try
- resetting some of the options in the MoreFonts control panel.
- Select Print All Text As Graphics. If this does not help, try
- one of these: select Use On The Fly Screen Fonts Taller Than
- and decrease the number of pixels, or select Fix Screen Fonts
- Taller Than and decrease the number of points.
-
-
-
- Bitstream Facelift users
- ========================
- When using Bitstream Facelift, you may notice some problems
- with small font sizes on the screen and in your printed
- calendars. To correct this, open the Bitstream control panel
- and set both threshold values to 2.
-
-
- PostScript printer
- ------------------
- You may experience some problems using PostScript printers
- with Bitstream Facelift. Be sure you have the latest version
- of Facelift. If you still have problems, open the Bitstream
- control panel and select the Unassigned SHELL Driver option.
-
-
-
- Font Aliases
- ============
- The Setup program should create proper font aliases for you
- if you have TrueType, Adobe Type Manager(R), MoreFonts, or
- BitStream FaceLift. If you do not have one of these font
- managers, or if you experience problems with incorrect fonts
- when you choose File | Workspace | New, you may have to edit
- your POWERUP.INI file. The file is located in your Windows
- directory. Use a text editor like Notepad to edit the file.
- Locate the [Aliases] section in the file and enter the font
- names your font manager uses for sans serif and serif type.
- The following is an example:
-
- [Aliases]
- Modern=Helvet
- Roman=Times
-
- You must exit Instant Calendar and restart it for the changes
- to take effect. If you have TrueType installed, the font aliases
- in your WIN.INI file will be used. If you have both TrueType and
- ATM, the font aliases located in your ATM.INI file will be used.
-
-
-
- WinFax PRO 3.0 users
- ====================
- WinFax version 1.0 and 2.0 should work fine with Instant
- Calendar. However, WinFax PRO version 3.0 causes
- problems when used with Instant Calendar. Whichever
- program is loaded first will work correctly, but the other
- program will fail. To prevent errors, do not run these
- programs at the same time. Contact WinFax PRO technical
- support at Delrina Technology for further information or
- send them a FAX at (416)441-0774 or (408)363-2340.
- Be sure to include your name, mailing address, and WinFax
- PRO registration number.
