- 1. Functionality of NETWORK.EXE
-
- This program, which is written entirely in Clipper 5, was developed with the idea
- that a network administrator needs to spend more times giving a good services to
- his clients instead of spending most of his times trying to keep in order his
- inventories. For that matter, this program was built with the following functions:
-
- * automatic ID address selection to avoid duplicate use of the same ID.
-
- * keep a list of groups name and ID which can be used to identify each
- station, for example: Group ID 34, address ID D4, you would have in
- the shell.cfg file the following line «LONG MACHINE TYPE=34D4». With
- this information, you can setup your menu interface to be based on
- station ID. That is one of many uses.
-
- * automatic cable selection from a list of cables previously defined
- with the cable manager. Once the cable is selected, it will not be
- shown next time you add a station. The cable manager helps you manage
- the inventory by creating for you a unique number for each cable
- added.
-
- * user manager helps you keep a list of user ID and also gives you a unique
- code for each user which is meant to be used for the LAN version of
- Word Perfect.
-
- * for each station, the programm keeps a description of the hardware
- and a list of service calls.
-
- * keeps a description of the server configuration.
-
- * prints stations and cables on rolodex cards 2"X4".
-
- * displays on screen current number of stations, cables and users.
-
- * display the switch configuration of the ID address
-
- * allows you to manage many servers easily
-
- The program is easy to understand, useful and can be modify if you obtain the
- source code.
-
-
- 2. Station management
-
- When working with the station inventory, you are being shown a station with
- complete information its configuration on the network. You can move from one
- station to another by using UP, DOWN, PGUP and PGDN keys. The options you see
- at the bottom correspond to function keys. When you add or modify a station, it
- has no permanent effect until you press F6 to save. When adding a station, the
- fields GROUP ID, CABLE NO, ADDRESS ID, I/O, INT and MEMORY ADDRESS puts you in
- a list mode showing you possible options. When modifying a station, use the
- insert key to activate a list of options.
-
- Other options are the F4 to sort using a different index, F5 which allows to
- describe the hardware configuration, F6 to save and close, F7 to find a station
- based on the index selected, F8 allows you to keep service calls.
-
- The key F9 brings you to another menu. In that menu, use F1 to print on rolodex
- card and F6 to print a listing of stations.
-
- 3. Cables management
-
- The main feature for this manager is that it use the first three caracters of
- the server database name plus the floor number to automatically generate a cable
- number. For example, a database name of "PYRAMIDE" and a floor number equal to
- one, assuming there is already 100 cables recorded, assuming that on the same
- floor, the cable # 49 doesn't exist, the manager would generate the following
- cable number "PYR1#49", next time the cable would be "PYR1#101".
-
-
