  3. NN is one of many different types of "newsreaders." A newsreader is a program
  4. that allows you to see a display of messages, to read, to reply, and to navigate
  5. between topics. NN is one of the most widely used of these programs.
  6.  
  7. First step: be sure that your communications software is set to "VT-100"
  8. emulation. This is a common setting available on most communication software
  9. packages.  It allows your computer to properly show the highlighting that is
  10. used in the nn program to display selected topics and messages.  (Communications
  11. software is what you are using to access Delphi; some popular programs are
  12. "Procomm", "talk
  13.  lew moments while your account is
  14. automatically set up on the Usenet host.  You will then see the introductory
  15. screen of the nn newsreader.

  17. Usenet is organized around topics.  There are more than 2500 different topics
  18. and all are abbreviated into what look like filenames.  Following are some
