- of the light rays reflected from him. A
- light ray reflected parallel to the
- horizontal will enter the lens and be bent
- such that it passes through the image of the
- focal point on the far side. A ray reflected
- through the center of the lens does not bend
- but remains on its original path. Finally, a
- ray traveling through the focal point in front
- of the lens will be bent such that it then travels
- parallel to the horizontal. Where these rays
- intersect is where the image of the man's head is
- formed. For the man standing behind the focal point,
- the image is real and upside down. If the diagram is
- drawn to scale, the mathematical relationships can
- also be determined. However, it is usually best to
- determine the mathematical values through the
- equations and then to check the signs with the graphing method.
