  1.     Beats exist when two waves of 
  2. close frequency interfere with each other. 
  3. The resulting frequency of the wave is an 
  4. average of the frequencies of the waves 
  5. that are interacting. Beats occur with a 
  6. frequency equal to the difference in 
  7. frequencies of the interacting waves. 
  8. The beats themselves are a change in the 
  9. amplitude of the wave. In sound, this 
  10. variation of amplitude is perceived as 
  11. a change in loudness.
