Chromium, molybdenum and tungsten, which are situated in group 6 of the periodic table, are shiny, silvery metals with very high melting and boiling points. Tungsten has the highest melting point of any element except carbon, which makes it of use as a filament material in electric light bulbs.
All three metals are resistant to corrosion, although at higher temperatures they react with many of the non-metallic elements, and chromium is more readily attacked by acids than either of its fellow group members.
