  1. THE PENNYWISE GADGETS:

  3. PENNYWISE uses INTUITION, the AMIGA's powerful and friendly user interface.

  5. All screens have 'gadgets' that are selected with the MOUSE pointer
  6. and (usually) clicking the left mouse button. 
  7.  
  8. There are three types of gadgets, one that you select with the mouse
  9. pointer and left button to set a certain condition. For example, in
  10. the Transaction Types window there is a gadget which indicates that
  11. the transaction type is a DEBIT TRANSACTION. Selecting it will make it
  12. indicate that it is a CREDIT TRANSACTION. Selecting it once more
  13. resets it to CREDIT.

  16. The second gadget is the 'STRING' gadget... the one you enter data into.
  17.  
  18. The STRING gadget appears as a 'box' either empty or perhaps
  19. displaying some text. Select a position within the box an click. A
  20. cursor appears. Enter some (appropriate) data. Notice that the cursor
  21. is confined to the box. When done, press [RETURN]. In PENNYWISE, if
  22. the current window has a subsequent STRING gadget the cursor moves to
  23. it automatically. Clicking the mouse somewhere else in the window
  24. moves removes the cursor from the string gadget.

  26. Incidentally, RIGHT AMIGA & [X] clears an active string gadget, RIGHT
  27. AMIGA & Q restores its previous values.

  30. Finally, there is the PROPORTIONAL GADGET. It consists of a vertical
  31. box enclosing a 'KNOB' which can be moved with mouse pointer while
  32. holding down the left button. As the 'KNOB' is moved and released,
  33. data in the window is adjusted accordingly. A good example is the
  34. TRANSACTION SELECTION WINDOW. When there are more transactions than
  35. the window can display the 'KNOB' represents the proportion of the
  36. total you are seeing. Move the knob to move up or down the transaction list.
