  4. Tftpd  is  a  server which supports the DARPA Trivial File
  5. Transfer Protocol.  The TFTP server operates at  the  port
  6. indicated  in  the  ``tftp'' service description; see
  7. services(5). The server is normally started by inetd(8).
  8. <P>
  9. The use of tftp does not require an account or password on
  10. the  remote  system.   Due  to  the lack of authentication
  11. information, tftpd will allow only publicly readable files
  12. to be accessed.  Files may be written only if they already
  13. exist and are publicly writable. Note that this extends
  14. the  concept  of  ``public''  to  include all users on all
  15. hosts that can be reached through the  network;  this  may
  16. not  be  appropriate  on all systems, and its implications
  17. should be considered before enabling  tftp  service.   The
  18. server  should  have  the user ID with the lowest possible
  19. privilege.

  21. Access to files may be restricted by invoking tftpd with a
  22. list  of directories by including pathnames as server pro-
  23. gram arguments in /etc/inetd.conf.  In this case access is
  24. restricted to files whose names are prefixed by the one of
  25. the given directories.
