  3. This TLS contains OpenServer 5 versions of the "hog" system monitoring
  4. tools.  These tools were originally developed and released for the Open
  5. Desktop and Open Server 3.0 platforms by Tom Kelly as TLS018, and are
  6. in fact still available under that name.

  8. This distribution contains version of memhog, iohog, and cpuhog that
  9. have been ported to OpenServer 5 by Larry Philps.  The programs "bcw"
  10. and "showreg" that are part of TLS018 have not yet been ported and so
  11. are not included in this release of the TLS.  The "trace" utility from
  12. TLS018 has been incorporated into the OpenServer Development System as
  13. a standard utility, and thus does not need to be included in this TLS.

  15. So, the programs included in this TLS are:

  17.    memhog - displays utilization of memory
  18.    iohog  - displays utilization of i/o
  19.    cpuhog - displays utilization of cpu
  20.  
  21. There are three directories:
  22. bin:
  23.     stripped binaries, compiled with static libraries
  24. man:
  25.     man pages for the commands in bin.
  26. cat:   
  27.         formatted man pages (nroff)

  29. This is just a plain tar file.  You can decide where to install the
  30. bits and pieces.

  32. Note that all programs must be able to read /unix and /dev/kmem.  Since
  33. /unix and /dev/kmem are by default readable by members of the group
  34. "mem", the safest way to set this up is to make make the hog program
  35. sgid mem (chmod 2711 bin/memhog).  As shipped, they can only be run by
  36. root.
