  7. SUPERLOAD is a superload vehicle route analysis system designed to automate the
  8. overload vehicle permitting process in state governments. State governments
  9. have established regulations that restrict the size and weight of vehicles that
  10. can travel their highways. Vehicles that exceed the limits for size and weight
  11. are required to obtain permits. Many overweight and oversize loads fall within
  12. categories that can be classified for standard permit approvals; however, a
  13. growing number of these vehicles, called superloads, do not fit into any
  14. classification. Superload permitting requires special structural analyses of
  15. all the bridges along a selected route before a permit can be issued. The
  16. output from SUPERLOAD can result in an automated permit printing and
  17. documentation process that conforms to the existing methods in the state permit
  18. section. SUPERLOAD applies the accuracy of a computer to the task of analyzing
  19. bridge data, thus improving the safety of our highways.
