  7. CodeNet-8320/8332 Micro Channel interface cards are designed to give IBM PS/2
  8. or compatible computers that have the Micro Channel bus a high-performance,
  9. fiber-optic link to an Ethernet network segment. Codenet fiber optic Ethernet
  10. is more robust and reliable than coax or twisted-pair solutions. It is
  11. completely immune to electromagnetic noise and no form of cable damage, like
  12. short circuits, ground faults, reflections, or impedance mismatches, can
  13. disable the network. It is also impossible for a cable to cause a fire or
  14. explosion since there is no electrical current present, and it is virtually
  15. impossible for an unauthorized agent to tap into the cable without easy
  16. detection. Workstations can be up to 1600 meters apart using a low cost
  17. CodeStar passive hub and CodeNet-8320/8332 interfaces can be combined with
  18. other CodeNet fiber optic components. CodeNet networks are easily extendable
  19. within large buildings or between buildings throughout a campus
  20.  
  21. The CodeNet-8320/8322 achieves higher performance because of its 16 KB
  22. dual-ported buffer memory architecture. The NIC does not require any DMA
  23. channels, eliminating DMA conflicts with other boards and providing maximum
  24. Micro Channel performance

  26. Because of fiber's large bandwidth and resulting data transmission capacity,
  27. the network has a long life expectancy. Newer, faster network standards, like
  28. FDDI, use the same fiber as Codenoll fiber optic Ethernet networks.
