- OSI Directory Services (X.500)
-
- WIN/DS is The Wollongong Group's implementation of the ISO Directory Services
- (also known as X.500) which allows users and applications to obtain
- information, such as addresses, about other users and applications from a
- distributed information base. WIN/DS enables you to administer names and
- addresses, and to streamline access to services through customized naming of
- network objects and applications
-
- Another WIN/DS capability is dynamic mapping between objects and their
- locations. This name-to-address allows OSI networks to be ``self-configuring''
- in that additions, removals and changes of object or entity locations don't
- affect OSI network operation
-
- The core functionality for applications to access the Directory is bundled with
- WIN/ULS as the DSE (Directory Service Element), while WIN/DS provides a
- Directory System Agent (DSA) which maintains the database and services
- Directory requests
-
- WIN/DS also includes a user interface, the Directory User Agent (DUA). WIN/DS
- conforms to ISO/IS 9594 and CCITT X.500.
