  7. The Map and Image Processing System provides fully integrated image processing,
  8. GIS, CAD, AM/FM, mapping, and spatial database capabilities. Raster objects
  9. (images) of 1 to 128 bits per pixel including real numbers can be processed.
  10. Typical raster processes include color display as ortho or 3-D surfaces,
  11. filtering, photointerpretation, rectification, mosaicking, tiling, supervised
  12. and unsupervised multispectral image processing, etc. Vector objects of 2-D and
  13. 3-D types are used in activities that include display, warping, and editing
  14. over images; 3-D solid modeling; tiling; intersection; etc. Integrated
  15. operations on CAD objects include X-Y digitizing and interactive CAD design
  16. over images. Advanced raster object conversion to vector or CAD objects is
  17. provided by color autoboundary finding, color separation, and autoline
  18. conversion, and semi-auto color line following. An integrated project file
  19. structure at the heart of MIPS manages raster, vector CAD, text and database
  20. objects and their descriptive subobjects in a single file. A HyperIndex Linker
  21. is available to allow MIPS to assemble geographically cross-indexed image, map,
  22. CAD, vectors, database objects into massive electronic atlases. More than 1300
  23. pages of interactive online documentation is provided together with a technical
  24. Guide of 320 pages.
