  10. Portions of this file contain information that applies 
  11. only to specific editions of the product. Such portions 
  12. are clearly marked with the name of the edition (Enterprise,
  13. Professional, Standard, etc.) to which the information 
  14. applies.

  27. Starting the installation program
  28. -----------------------------------------------------------
  29. The Delphi 5 installation program should run automatically 
  30. when you insert your CD. Otherwise, launch the setup 
  31. program-- INSTALL.EXE --from your CD.

  33. From the Launcher, you can install Delphi, InstallShield 
  34. Express, and other programs (which vary depending on your
  35. edition of Delphi). You can also connect directly to Borland
  36. to register your copy of Delphi (requires a working Internet 
  37. connection).

  40. IMPORTANT! Be sure to reboot the computer (as prompted by
  41. the installation program) after installing and before using
  42. the product.

  45. Installation directory
  46. -----------------------------------------------------------
  47. By default, Delphi 5 installs into the directory:
  48.  
  49.   \Program Files\Borland\Delphi5
  50.  
  51. This README and most other documentation assumes these 
  52. defaults. 
  53.  
  54. If you install to a different location, be sure you do
  55. not install over any previous Delphi release.

  57. Installing the Borland Database Engine
  58. -----------------------------------------------------------
  59. This release of Delphi includes a new version of the
  60. Borland Database Engine (BDE). Unless you specify other
  61. than the default setup directories during installation,
  62. Delphi will overwrite existing 32-bit BDE and SQL Links
  63. installations.

  65. Note that BDE is available only in the Enterprise and 
  66. Professional editions of Delphi 5; SQL Links is available 
  67. only in the Enterprise edition. For additional BDE 
  68. installation information, see BDEINST.TXT in your main 
  69. BDE directory (installation default: 
  70.   C:\Program Files\Common Files\Borland Shared\Bde)

  73. KNOWN INSTALLATION ISSUES

  76. InterBase Client
  77. -----------------------------------------------------------
  78. When installing Delphi and InterBase client, an invalid
  79. error message may occur. With an error code of 401, the
  80. message is "String variable is not large enough for string.
  81. Check the string declarations". Ignore the error and click
  82. the OK button, the installation will proceed normally. When
  83. this problem does occur, it should only be on installations
  84. involving very long directory paths.

  86. InterBase Install/Registry
  87. -----------------------------------------------------------
  88. If the error "Internal error near: IBcheck" occurs, check
  89. the PATH value for the registry key:
  90. HK_Current_user\environment and if it is a hex value delete
  91. it or convert it to a character string.

  93. InterBase 5 and NetWizard
  94. -----------------------------------------------------------
  95. NetWizard may interfere with the installation of InterBase
  96. 5 (not included with all editions of Delphi), resulting in
  97. the error "Error trying to interface with Windows shell."
  98. You must disable NetWizard prior to installing Delphi.

  106. REMOVING DELPHI
  107. ===========================================================
  108. To uninstall Delphi 5 from your computer, open the 
  109. Control Panel folder and double-click the Add/Remove 
  110. Programs icon. Select Borland Delphi 5 from the list, then 
  111. click the Add/Remove button. Follow the instructions that 
  112. appear on the screen.
